Any comments on driving at high speed? I haven't taken my 128i vert over 100 mph yet. I'm a little curious about top up/top down noise and feel. It seem surprisingly quiet for a vert - except when a nasty big truck is nearby. It also seems very poised regardless of speed, which I expected in a bimmer.

I imagine the vert may be a bit more floaty without M suspension. |

Nothing "floaty" about the vert,,,I went to Koln yesterday and managed
140MPH for a while until some Porsche wanted to get by,,, I dont even realize how fast I am really going until about 120MPH or so and there is no real noise other than the fact that there is no roof,,,,,! It really pulls well,,,,had the RPM's up to 7K on an incline until I let off a bit so it could shift,,I cant imagine what the 135i is like,,,, |

Hey, Niblet - where in Germany are you? I was just over there for delivery of my 135i vert. Loved the car. Loved Germany. I got to drive the Autobahn at about 100 mph, but couldn't go faster, cause the car wasn't broken in yet. It was cool, calm, and collected at that speed. Wish I coulda floored it - cars were passing me like I was standing still!

Congrats, on my way home just a few minutes ago I took my vert to 160mph, with the top up. I think it's louder with the top up than down.

135i, no it's not governed @ 130mph. It is supposed to be 155mph but I was definately over that with some rpms to spare.

I just got my 128i convertible for my birthday too! The M Sport suspension helps a bit with keeps things calm at speed. But I might upgrade the shocks at some point.
Congratulations Niblet, I am sure you'll have great fun. Take some photos of the interior of your car! |

Option code #840 - increase top speed limiter. and... ALL M// cars have a 155 mph (250 kph) speed limiter. IF you go to a M// perfromance school... and graduate AND take it to your dealer... AND pay them some $$$ they will download a new speed limiter so your car will go 172 mph (280 kph). |

BMW is also not going to change the speed limiter above the limit of the tires on the car. I think my car has V rated tires - 149 mph. You need W for 168, Y for 186 or Z for something not clearly defined but in excess of 149.

When I said "M// cars" I meant M3, M5, M6, X5M, X6M.
NOT an m-package on our 1er's! IF a 128i or 135 has the M-sport package... it should go 155 mph. PS: Niblet you need to come over here in Bayern where we have 'free" autobahns and they are straight and flat! Not like the congestion you have in Baden Wuertenburg or Hessen. I think your best bet is to drive down the A5 for a speed run at night. But make sure you know the area bc there are some baustellers (construction zones tehre now). |
