I am debating whether to do this or Monticello on august 30th. Does anyone have any experience with lightning? How's the track?

I have done both tracks and I must say that I really liked both... but it is true with a slight advantage to Monticello as it is really a great fit for a high power car like ours (ie, long straight, etc). On the other hand, Lightning is also a great track, quite technical and I am especially looking forward to doing a 3-day event because this is probably one of the best ways to make significant progress when it comes to your driving capabilities.

I am sure that others will chime in (eg, skierman64, lucid, etc.)

Thanks for the advice. By 3 days, do you mean we get a full track day each day (3-4 sessions per day, 20-30 minutes each)? Or is it more spread out amongst the 3 days?

...they should be full days (ie, 4 sessions of 20-25 min). I think that they have one less group (beginner) to make space for the club race.

Hi Mtrois! I'll on travel, so can't make it. I really like Lightning. Also, I was told Monticello will not be open to driving clubs next year, so if you guys want to check it out/spend more time there, do it soon!

I'm in too. (Haven't registered yet though!)

My last track event was two years ago at Thunderbolt with my 335i Coupe. How did so much time go by!

This time I'm bringing the 911 C2S instead of a Bimmer.

Look forward to catching up with you Lucid. Yeah, I also heard that for Monticello but apparently they already used this tactic in the past to boost the registrations.... will see but for sure it is a nice track... just getting a little fast without a cage in the car.

I just signed up for DelVal Lightning school yesterday. I'm doing Saturday and Sunday only, and option they recently added.

And, I'll be driving the E90. My son took the cherished E46 back to school with him yesterday. I'm looking forward to getting the M3 on this track.

We had a great time there....weather was near perfect until the last run yesterday and even that light drizzle was not bad.

Saw midlifecrisis, Jobu, stevespool, davem3fan... and even skierman64 who paid us a visit yesterday!!

Another great event by BMW CCA. I will try to post some pics and vids later this week.

Lightning was awesome - I had to bail on the last run since it started to rain and I wanted to quit while I was ahead!

Did you guys watch the club races? I heard they were pretty interesting. Someone I know in the new M3T class almost got the overall pole (runner up) from a bunch of CM, DM and IP cars by turning something in the 1:13s. That is basically a JS E30 M3 with advanced suspension work (stock 2.3L S14 engine). Pretty impressive I'd say. Lightning is not a power track, but it isn't all that tight either. I think my best time there in the mostly stock E92 M3 during open lapping was in the 1:18s.

Some of those guys were sick fast. It was funny to watch Nafi drive completely through the grass on the inside of turn 7 (far left of the apex cone), and still go on to win that race. A lot of mechnical issues this weekend too. I was happy to see Geoff get his first wins. He is a great guy. I had a blast in the E46. Too bad I'm just seeing this thread now or I would have introduced myself over the weekend. I had the black E46 w/ the orange cage, and my father drove my blue E92. If you ever see us at the track, come over and introduce yourself.

MTROIS and I both watched the club races - very intense. 3 cars were impounded after the races for violations of some sort.

Ah, ok, now I can put a face on a (nick) name!

I was running with your dad on Friday before moving up to Yellow on Saturday!

Not sure if there was a violation... I thought they just checked if the weight of the cars were within specs. Someone will need to chime in.

you`re right MTROIS - I meant to say suspected violations. I heard that the cars were thought to be underweight.
