My DIY S65 Engine Cover Paint Scheme

Got my hands on a spare S65 engine cover and decided to do paint scheme. Supplies that I used were tape, razor blade, high temp primer and high temp paint. I spent a good 3hrs taping and prepping. Banged out almost a whole can of primer and than a whole can of red paint. After I removed the tape there were over sprays here and there. The touch up took me about 2hrs. I had to retape certain areas and start rubbing paint thinner on the overspray. It turned out pretty good after I was done with it. Heres some shots I took.

The job itself looks pretty good man, but did you match your 'Melbourne Red' color? Otherwise it might look odd .
Don't know where you bought it, but the chrome cap missing tells me somebody might have tried to separate the 2 halves and broke the seal. Make ABSOLUTELY sure it's perfectly sealed or your engine would ingest unfiltered air, and you DO NOT want that.

Hey, about a pic of it on your car ?

looks pretty coool.. have you considered a gloss look with a clearcoat over it?

The paint should last quite a bit as long as it is heat resistant, I can't imagine it being exposed to too much abrasion.

Very original, thanks for contributing!!

Very nice work. Might look a bit busy under the hood but lets see a pic of that.

Thanks guys, yes to a point where my fingers cramped up. But I spreaded the work out in a weeks time frame. I think I might just make this my garage wall decoration.

Thanks, I thought about it but than that would mean I would have to sand down the whole thing including the black part that I left alone and paint that portion black to get the whole smooth gloss look like the IND ones. That would be probably be another 5-8 plus hrs easily on top.

I'm wanting to do this... However i'm wanting to sand it down first... Any opinions on what "grit" to use?

Cool man, but I wonder will that cover last long, and will it influence the heat dissipation?
