Going to a HPDE can I use my HREs?
Sorry if this is a no brainer but Ive never been to one of these and didnt know if using my nice aftermarket wheels is a good idea or not. I dont have any idea how hard we will really be going so thats why Im curious. I have good sticky tires on them now. Or would doing so potentially trash both tires and rims??
I have my stock 18's but no tires so I didnt really want to put new tires on these unless I planned on doing alot more events this year. Which is up in the air right now because of time. Btw its a BMWCCA event. |

You'll be fine. Have fun and listen to your instructor.
If anything, be prepared to clean off a lot of crap from the wheels at the end of the day if you care about such things.

Thanks all.. I was hoping to keep costs down the first time. If I get addicted then I can deal with all the other stuff.. just wanted to experience it!
I figure Im gonna be overwhelmed since its the first time so Im not gonna be pushin it too much anyways. |

If it were me, I would put tires on your stock 18's. But HRE's should be fine for your first day if you are under control. As others said, though, it is very expensive to mess those up!

Which track? Is it the Buttonwillow event with the San Diego Chapter?
Hell, he should leave it on full traction control for the first few events. MDM allows a good amount to slip.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

hey aus just noticed you live right by me.. Im in Huntington Harbor!
anyways, yes it was supposed to be the buttonwillow event but I had to cancel.. my brother is flying into town with his soon to be fiance so I gotta play tour guide the whole weekend! So I either have to wait till the fall CCA events or go out there with some of the other clubs. Im gravitating to the CCA events because of the instructors since its my first time out, which makes me wonder if there are other clubs with great instructors... well thats a topic for another thread. Also to everyone, I have no ideas of me being the next coming of Michael Schumacher! haha! I fully plan on keepin it ez for my first go round. Learn to crawl as they say.. |
