What is the point of locking armrest ??

The center armrest compartment locks when the top is down and the car is locked. I guess so that you can keep some things in there when you leave the car unattended for a short time.

However, to unlock it, all someone has to do is reach in the car and press the unlock button on the dash... kind of makes the locking feature pointless.

... you can also reach in and open the doors from the inside.

no, it doesn't work that way... you can't just reach in and press the unlock button or open the door.

try it... lock the car with the windows and roof down, lock the car and wait a few seconds. than try anything to unlock the doors (don't have the key with you if you have CA though)

OK, just tried it again. Put top down. Locked car with remote. Went inside. Left remote on table. Went back out side. Pressed unlock button on dash. Opened center console. Opened door..... ???

Perhaps with the factory alarm, it would go off if anyone reaches for the unlock button with the top down?

Yes, the alarm would go off if someone reached inside.

If the top is down and the windows are UP, all but a 7 footer with a huge wingspan can't hit the unlock botton on the center console.

I have the factory alarm. I put the top down, locked it, reached in, and pushed the unlock couple times but would not unlock. Alarm did not go off until I opened the door using the inside door handle.

I do not have the factory alarm. When I press the button, it only unlocks the center compartment, not the doors. But I can then unlock and open the doors from the inside.

Yes, even though I have the alarm, mine does the same thing. I can reach in and press unlock, but it only unlocks the center and glovebox compartment. I guess the only way to keep the glovebox locked, you have to insert key and lock it. I don't think there is a way to keep the center one locked.
