Next Year's Conondrum: what to do for next car! Opinions needed please!
I'm posting this in here because the M3 sedan is high in my list of what to get....so here it goes.
I currently have a 135i lease, and and X5 4.4 paid off for the wifey. The X5 is gonna be a keeper, great car, etc. The 135i lease is up next summer (2011), but I'm starting to see no real good solutions for the next car to replace it. I need a car that: a) can seat at least 4 (2 adults + 2 kids) b) is sporty and looks good c) trackable when needed My options that I can think of are: Option1 Wait and get the M1. Supposedly it is a done deal, and will probably come in at MSRP of $51k or so. It will have a TT N55 based engine, around 360hp or so. Should be out for sale by summer of 2011. Option2 Get the e90 M3 Sedan. Great looking car, great sedan, and meets my track needs when need be. However, it will be pricier, and the car will be the last year production so I will be paying a premium for an outgoing model. Option3 Suck it up and wait for the F10 M3. Supposed to be a Twin Turbo 6cylinder, pushing 450+ hp. Only in Coupe model (no sedan), but should still seat 4. Price will be outrageous I assume, but should be highly tuneable! Wont be available till 2013!! Option4 Keep the 135i once lease is up. Car is fun, I like it, albeit not too fond of the front facia. Does well in the track as is, and modding it more (I already have a chip and suspension) with a diff and better pads, etc, should make it even more competitive. Residual around $24k. However, I'm not sure this is the car I wanna keep for a long time... I always wanted an M car again. what say you guys?

I moved this thread to the 'M3 vs' section and corrected the development code for the next gen M3. Hope you don't mind.
Best regards, south

yeah, I'm really leaning towards it. I kinda dont wanna get stuck with the V8 when the F10 engine will be so tuneable, but sometimes you can't have the cake and eat it too.

firstly, stop modding your 135i the car is great the way it is.
secondly, live in the here and now, you have a sweet car you should just enjoy it instead of constantly thinking about 2 year or 3 year plans. |

Keep the 1er, go with m3 suspension bits/sways, better brake pads/lines, vk dp's (only 200), your choice of exhaust (I like eissimann or meisterschaft), hpf fmic, coolingmist methanol kit, some lsd, what ever wheels you like, and a vorsteiner hood.
Depending on where you shop it should be under 10K and with a residual value of 24K you have your self a stupid fast car, much faster than any car bmw makes (I killed a m6 on the highway with a 40-140 with those mods minus fmic). It should tide you over until the F10 m3 comes out. Maybe you will even like the 135i more by then, especially with the turbos that are bound to be out by then.

^^ Dude, don't get blue on red, you're going to have a horrendous time trying to sell the car whenever you get bored with it.
I'd keep the 1er, find a decently priced used SUV(X5/ML350) and see what happens in the future. You'll lose a lot of money getting a new car every couple years just to have a new car. Euro delivery is sweet though...

Wew, finally found your post!
Dude, it's been heaven with the M3 sedan for the past year. it's a very accomplished car and leaves you wanting for nothing. Except... I'm still not sure if I'll keep it or go for the M1 next year, Euro Delivery. I've been wanting to do the yearly BMW Nurburgring school at the beginning of August and that would be a golden opportunity. As a daily driver, the E90 M3 with 18" wheels and EDC is absolutely superb. (Well the mileage could be better). I only have 1 child (6 yo) so I could stuff him in the back of an M1 without any problems - as long as I keep him entertained he likes it. But it's also true that I've tremendously enjoyed the convenience of 4 doors. I guess you could say 4 doors are nice but not 100% required. Bottom line - if the M1 turns out to be the light, nimble track champion that BMW seems to indicate then I'll get it and probably keep it for a long time.
