Love 911's! But...

Love the 911 for everything it is... but i drove a good friend C2S PDK, and the engine sounded like a blender with a banana stuck in it.

I have a 997.2 911s cab and I think the engine sounds great.

997.2's are a definite improvement of sound over the 997.1 but I personally don't think it can compare to a e9x m3 with an exhaust. Hard to beat the sound of a v-8 with an h-6.

I love the burble of the v8, but there is something intoxicating of having the boxer 6 sitting right behind you.

I love Porsche too, anyone know when the 998 is supposed to come out, waiting to see if I trade my m3 for a Carrera S

See thats what I don't get... If I wanted to I could go out and buy a 911 Turbo PDK, but I feel that the car isn't for me, yes the Turbo is way faster but that is why I have my ZR1 for...

When it comes to sound exhilaration, the GT3 with a 3.8 Liter boxer 6 sounds atleast as good as any BMW high-revving engine ever produced, if not better.

Ofcourse, the best sounding Posche ever is bar none the Carrera GT.

I went from a RS46 M3 stroker to a 997.2 GT3. Best decision I ever made as far as cars go... this exhaust will be installed soon. They sound a bit odd at idle, but under acceleration, very hard to beat; but also very different from the 997/s.

The GT3 is the only Porsche (Carrera GT aside) that I would ever purchase, thinking about picking one up in 2011

Same for me, the ONLY ONE Porsche I like and would purchase if I could is the 911 GT3 / GT2 RS. Also Carrera GT aside that is a peace of art.

The 997.1 sounds much better than the 997.2 (both carrera s). The 997.1 had a much throatier sound with a nice burble. The new 997.2 almost sounds too efficient, IMHO. I have driven both extensively and always miss the sound of the 997.1

+1

...but that 997 range as a whole were such clinical, German masterpieces. Direct Injection and PDK were big steps.

Can't wait until the 998 Carrera!

totally irrelevant but I remember reading the next platform potentially may be called 991 instead of 998? ..but talking about exhaust notes it's hard to beat the GT series cars...there's a 997.1 GT3 RS that rips it down a long straight where I pass by almost every day...it's intoxicating

Another "really?!". I've drove a Boxster, Cayman S, Carrera 4S, and Carrera GT before and I think all of them sounds fantastic! I'm gonna get a Porsche one day eventually.

The .2 911 engine is hardly better sounding than its predecessor. The .2 received DI and a host of other improvements, however, the exhaust and intake sound definately became quieter and more tame. The beautiful intake noise is also missing from the .2. Porsche's sport exhaust (PSE) improves the exhaust sound, but the .1 sounds better for sure, everything being relative of course. This excludes the GT3 of course which retained the glorious sound and the venerable GT1 block.

With that said, the .2 C2S's engine is wonderful and a big improvement over the .1, imo. It feels far stronger than the 30 claimed hp and revs so freely. The torque is vastly improved over the .1 again moreso than the numbers suggest. A tubi, AWE, Europipe, Sharkwerks bypass or even PSE can fix the sound problem.

We'll very likely see the 991 in the fall of 2012 as a MY2013. The Carreras will have the engine moved a few inches forward with a longer wheelbase. The S will have about 405-410 hp, from the same basic .2 power plant and the car will weigh about 100lbs less. It won't be 2014.

From what I hear it'll be a little bit more GT like, with its longer wheelbase and bigger interior; not a really great thing to me. The engine moved forward will likely be an improvement, but the longer wheelbase may make the car too sterile.

Me too. If I lived in the city I'd already be driving a 997.2 CS.
