I need reasons NOT to buy the GTR.

I purchased the M in 2009. DCT, Premium, Technology, fully loaded practically except the cold weather package. I enjoy the M and it does its purpose to drive to and back from work and the occasional free spirited driving. However, I just feel as if the M3 lacks its "OOMPH" in power and torque. I had a B5 stage III S4 prior as my DD. I keep looking at the GTR. I have yet to drive one nor sat in one and needed members opinions and true insights. I need REAL reasons not to trade in the M. Members that have had/have one now, please chime in.

I think maybe a louder exhaust would change that. although the speed doesn't change, but I noticed that a loud exaust can trick you into thinking the car has more oomph

- For one, the GT-R redlines only at 6700 rpm and sounds like f'ing vaccum cleaner
- GT-R is a lot bulkier and heavier car
- GT-R transmission is notorious for breaking and then there is the warranty
- M3 is much easier to drive every day
- The hit that you will take on the M3 cost wise, you could spend that on modding the M3 (exhaust, intake, tune, pulley etc. or if you want to go crazy then a stroker or supercharger kit), you will end up with all the OOMPH you long for.

I posted nearly the exact same question about 10 months ago. It turned into a pissing match.

Get the GTR like I did. You will not look back.

I just put on an intake, Cobb ECU tuner & midpipe. Supposedly adds about 110 awhp.

Several of the guys from NAGTROC are creeping into the 10's with just those mods. Remarkable really.

I agree with you that the M3 doesn't feel very fast. I've come to live with it and enjoy the car for what it's made, which is twisty roads. If you're looking for a daily driver torque monster, the M3 certainly can't compete.

Good luck.

Please don't take this the wrong way;

Some of us like vaccum cleaners. They are easy to modify

GTR is a whopping 200lbs heavier than an M3

GTR transmission is no more notorious for breaking than any other tranny. Just far more publicized. Warranty now is a non issue. Gross abuse is required for them to deny warranty.

GTR is not as comfy as an M3. Once you floor the GTR, your friends will ask you to compare the two cars. My response was "M.... what?"

A supercharger kit will cost more than the trade in hit & yield less performance than a GTR.

Bank on saving $200/month for maintenance, service & tires etc.

I have heard that Nissan is really anal about modding those care. ie. they will void any and all warranties for even the smallest changes..

This is only what I have heard.

I had the same question and decided that GTR would be pointless to some degree. On the street, you cannot really use its benefits without getting into big trouble with law (I've heard tuned GTRs go from zero to jail-speed in 5 seconds ). On the track, you are getting the same or lower enjoyment than from M3 or a Cayman, despite going faster. So really GTR makes sense just for the numbers sake and bullying people on the track - not my cup of tea.

On the other hand, it is a technological marvel that I can appreciate.

Truthfully, if I were to purchase the car I would leave it stock. I would want to keep the warranty. The same reason why I haven't touched the M. Two of my buddies work for Nissan and one of them use to be the GM before he moved to Porsche. I'm talking to him tonight to see if he can pull any strings.

They were.... they are just now easing up. My dealer doesn't seem to mind.

Like any warranty, if the installed non factory part causes the fault, chances are you will get stuck with a bill.

200 lbs?? Really?? On the scale, that is more like 300 lbs. 300 lbs is a lot of weight by any standards.

And yet the GTR is still a better performing car. Your GTR hatred gets tiresome. The M3 is a really nice vehicle and I would never rip on a person if they picked it over the Nissan. Why not try and tone it down a notch. The GTR is truly a spectcular vehicle.

No doubt about it, the GT-R is an amazing piece of machinery even for it's weight it consistantly lays the beat down on cars priced and spec'd on paper better than it.

For that i respect it.

Having test drove the GT-R a whopping ONE time (Nissan treated these things like Ferraris ffs when they first came out, dealership had a velvet rope around it i sh*t you not lol).

Here were my impressions: to me the interior felt waaaaaaay to chinsy (Think Altima level trim not even Maxima) and the gauges/displays where way to fast & furious for me, heck i was even having flash backs of the electronics/interior of Jackie Chan's car in Cannon Ball run!

The ride was pretty rough and to be honest the lines of the car were far to harsh to be considered a good looking vehicle (to me).

Other than that i say go for it as it IS a beast and if the lines/looks are your cup of tea YOUR making the payments!

I love the M's interior, it's simply gorgeous. The interior on the GTR is.. ugly. I setup an appointment for Monday to take a look at it and see if I truly like it.

Cobb Access port = Warrenty Void

I can look past the GTR for being ugly, because I know it's a performer. However, 90% of the ladies says its (they don't care how fast it is).

i never owned one but just all there BS warranty voids is what made me not even think about owning it. they have added even more warranty voids now and cut the 0-60 time down.

so basically if you want to have fun in the car your going to void your warranty. i would read all of that real careful bf you trade in your M for that car

on another note once i added the midpipe and muffler to my M it made a big difference in how the car performed. like a different car and it sounds amazing
