Track Event Monticello Ny 4/24/10 Lets Go Kill It!!!!

Here it is gentleman, the oppurtunity to get some driving time on a 4.1 mile roadcourse. My buddy sent me this info this morning, I will definitely attend this event. I'm hoping other board members will be interested and we can caravan together in the early AM. I am not affiliated with any of these organizations, however I love killing my car on the track and figured others would like to join in the fun! Here is the link for more details http://trackacardia.com/events.html
For anyone in the NJ area that will attend this event please PM me so we could look into a possible caravan.

FYI -

NJBMWCCA will also be there on April 12, and the cost is only $225, I think.

More info at njbmwcca.org.

I am a BMW CCA member and was going to go to this but then I read that they don't allow you to have tints on the rear window of the car. I track alot and I have never heard of this before... ever! They say its so you can look through the car windows in front to see cars ahead. Seems a little fishy to me... I don't know but with the Z4 M Coupe I can hardly see out the rear window when i am in the car. Let alone see through it from a car behind while traveling at track speeds. The pass through between thefront and rear trunk is like the size of mail slot! I am going to have to email Larry and see what he and the NJ CCA have to say about it.

The PCA actually has the cheapest track days in NJ... I am running NJMP thunderbolt for two days for only $275 in march! Now that is a deal!

I was at this track 4 months ago to drive the Bentley GT Supersport. Was my first time at this track.

Unfortunately they only had the right half of the track available for the Bentley driving, so I never got to push it on that back straight! The track is absolutely STUNNING however, It's such a great location.

NJBMWCCA views dark tint as a safety concern. Tint that's too dark obstructs the view of the track ahead and could prevent following drivers from seeing hand signals. They don't ban all tint, but they evaluate on a case by case basis. You can check their web site if you'd like to have your tint evaluated by their chief tech inspector. There's a way to have your tint checked before the event so you don't show up and then get sent home. Take some pictures of the car looking through it to a light object like a garage door. Email them to Vic for evaluation. Sometimes they'll grant a one time exception and allow you to run the event where they'll tell you whether you can run future events with your tint after they look at the car in person.

You might want to give it a try. It depends on how dark the tint is.

I totally agree that tint on the front windsheild is a safety concern but its the side windows and rear windows that don't make sense to me. I have run a bunch of CCA autox's but never tracked with them so I think the best thing to do is just ask them at the first autox i do with them. If they are cool with the tint I have on the side windows and rear window then I will run with them if not I will just stick with the PCA. I would REALLY love to track with the CCA though!

Edit.... I searched the NJ BMW CCA forums and I have come to find out that they only really care about the front wind sheild and rear window tints. In my case the front window is not tinted but the rear is. I am thinking they wont have a problem with the rear window tint since there is really not any visablitly out of it with tints or not.

Tint is not an issue for NJ Chapter autocross events - only track. They sent someone home last year because they failed to follow the specific instructions to have rear window tint checked out before arrival. The guy figured the rules didn't apply to him, which didn't win him any friends in the CCA. Don't assume your car won't pass, but don't blow off the rules, either.

It's easy enough to take a few pics and send them to the chief tech inspector, who's a great guy and a knowledgeable resource. If you're going to go to an autocross to have your tint checked, make sure Vic is there. He's the only one who speaks for the club on this, and he's not a regular autocrosser.

They view it as a safety issue, pure and simple. People in cars behind you must be able to see through your car. This is particularly important when someone near the front of a line of cars checks up and hits his brakes. If you have a dark tint and the guy behind you didn't see the guy ahead of you check up, you're the one who's going to get rear-ended. The rule is designed for every participant's safety. By the way, they don't care at all about side window tint.

Most of the CCA instructors seem to agree with this rule and appreciate its enforcement, as do many of the students.

They're just trying their best to keep it as safe as possible for everyone, and they're trying to provide the safest possible environment to encourage people to participate. Not everyone agrees with every rule, but hopefully they understand the intent and the need for everyone to follow them.

you guys are getting completely off topic here, the first post was for a trackadia day at monticello not the NJ BMW CCA day. trackadia doesn't care about rear tints and we are trying to get a lot of m3 guys up there for the day on track. Should be a lot of Fun. One of my friends and i are already signed up so that confirms 2 m's, i heard ctbimmer may sign up if he can get the day off work. Lets keep it about this track day specifically so we can take over the even as a bmw raceday, non njbmwcca

This sounds awesome, I'm eager to hit the track for the first time.

Are you allowed to bring a guest to the track? If so you can count me in!
