Car locking Audio confirmation...Do you have it?
Hello,
I was under the impression in order to have audio confirmation when locking the car you must have an alarm...I don't even have it as an option in the idrive. The manual in both the 08 M3 and 08 335xi show that option and to make things more confusing some guys from another thread claim they have it(no alarm), Am I missing something? Thx |

agreed, you have to have an alarm for a beep to occur when locking/unlocking

So, unless you have the optional BMW alarm installed, the car cannot, under any circumstances, make a noise when the doors are remote-locked? Mine doesn't have it installed, but the lights blink when I lock the doors. There is no sound, but I've never thought about it before. Thanks for the info.

I can't tell you how many times I have had to re-lock just to be sure. All of my Audi's had the sound feature and I miss it...

I was curious about this too! And I also have to re-lock my car almost every time because I am never positive if I actually locked it...Seems like adding the alarm system may be beneficial.

OP, just keep in mind dealer has to 'activate' the alarm by downloading a new software version, and some dealers charge an arm and a leg for that, so check around before ordering anything. Good luck.

Panda, do you have a link for a site that sells the pre-03/09 alarm for that price? I checked Tischer and couldn't find it.

I brought an alarm for the same reason, I need to hear the beep since I always double check. The OEM alarm did cost $140 (E93) from Circle BMW and I installed it myself (very easy). Now the dealers are asking between 2:30 - 4 hours to activate it...ridiculous

Alarms are pretty much useless in today's society, more of a nuisance than necessity. CAS already disables the DME when locked, the alarm is simply a noisemaker on top of this.

i assume all canadian cars have alarms....
my car has the beep option, so for you guys without alarms when you lock the car does the light under the rearview mirror still blink red? is this independent of the alarm... |

It's actually one of the only parts that doesn't need coding, as soon as you plug in the sensor and siren that thing will blink But the alarm will not be fully functional until you get it activated at the dealer |

True, but the alarm also adds an interior motion and tilt sensor. I'm not one to leave my windows down but a tilt sensor is a GREAT option. The noise is kind of the point though. Even today, a thief isn't going to hang around a car making noise when there are many more "soft" targets. |
