Offsets, Offsets and more offsets!

OK guys please help. I would really like some input from people who have run agressive offsets or know what does and does not work.

Before we start I want a wheel that sits 'flush' without being stupid. I fully expect to have to roll the fenders to achieve this.

Wheel shortlist is.

BBS CH

19 x 8.5 et 35
19 x 9.5 et 40

According to BBS Germany this will fit with the fenders rolled and the plastic liner modified, it is also TUV approved for the German market which means it CAN'T 'stick out'

VMR VB3

19 x 8.5 et 40
19 x 9.5 et 45

According to VMR this will fit with the fenders rolled and the liner modified.

Advan RS

19 x 8 et 38
19 x 9 et 42

According to Vivid this WON'T fit period they keep refering me to the et 45 front and et 50 rear. I have emailed WSTO and had no response.

First choice rim would be the ADVAN et 38 and 42 but before I outlay a large wedge of money I really would like confirmation from you guys that with a little work to the fenders this is possible.

In theory if my maths is correct then I should be 3mm in at the rear and 4mm in at the front over the VMR setup which I understand works.

There also seems to be a lot of talk accross the forum on 1'er offsets and most of this points to a lot higher offset that what I am looking at, is this just to avoid fender mods?

Is anybody running these kind of offsets that can offer any advice please?

I have just found a thread by WSTO selling spacers, 10mm rear and 18mm front. Using the calculator that suggests that my advan setup would only be 13mm worse than the standard wheel at the rear and 20mm at the front.

On the basis this is not a lot different to the spacers and with the correct 225/35 and 255/30 tyre surely with the arches rolled this will be OK?

well im running 18x8.5 +45 and 18x9.5 +40.

I have rubbing sometimes on my rear, but it all depends on the tires IMO. I am running 255/35/18 winters, so if you step down one size to 245s i dont see any rubbing happening.
Then again, these are 18's.

I am pretty sure the advans should fit no problem, i have 8.5 and 40, and those are 8 and +38. Also those are 1-specific sized wheels, so i HIGHLY doubt they will rub

Tried that thanks. It seems to provide some of the answers but nobody seems to have posted how much clearance can be gained from fender mods and on the basis my car does not arrive until March I can't measure it.

I would have liked to have ordered the wheels now as they take a while to arrive.

Just to confirm then, your front are not a problem?

Have you rolled the rear fenders?

Are you planning to lower your car? If not, the BBS would be very difficult to fit even with rolling and cambering, but the other two should fit.

My car had a setup very similar to the VMR's on the stock suspension, unrolled. It would scrub with passengers or on large bumps but overall was fine. It didn't look very good to me though.

I had my fenders rolled and then I lowered my car 20mm. Supposedly a good roll job adds around 5mm clearance. When you lower you gain negative camber. I assume I gained a degree or two of rear camber with my lowering. I think some also say that a degree or so of camber effects the offset also by about 5mm. Funny enough, some brands of square shouldered tires effect fitment substantially also, probably also in the range of 5mm.

I bought my aggressive wheels used. If I were looking at new high end wheels like you, I'd just go with the Advan RZ's since they come in a better fitment and look almost as good as the RS's. But then again, if I paid that much I'd pay a little more and move up to Volks. I think they have a G2 or something like that which looks similar and comes in the same fitment. I have to run 245 tires on my 9.5's so you may as well get 9 inch wheels unless you are getting an offset above 50.

do a search on posts that I have made with my Forgelines. I'm having two rear wheels re-made because 19x9.5 ET50 isn't working for me when lowered with -1.9 degrees of camber. I am going to do at least ET56 and likely will do ET58 on a 9.5" wheel. ET56 is the equivalent of the Advan RZ 19x9 ET50.

If you are willing to modify your fenders (possibly trim them) then maybe some of those fitments will work. Good luck!!!

That Advan sizing will fit no problem! Studie Japan did it before the RZ was available. They used 235 front and 265 rear tires.

They did need to roll the fenders and add a bit of extra camber to get it to fit. I am not positive this resulted in ZERO rubbing, but I'm sure it was at least minimal. With a 225 front and 255 rear tire it would be even easier to fit.

Did I reply to your email? We had so many emails to get back to after the holiday, I can't remember them all! Sent you a PM anyways
