Iphone cradle not working.

I just bought the Iphone cradle (snap in) and it only seems to charge the phone and I'm able to to use the phone as is connected through bluetooth.
But I can't access my songs that I have in my iphone.
Is anybody playing the songs that are saved in the iphone while the phone is hooked in the cradle?

Franko you need to have configured the option S06NF (extended connectivity of the music player in the mobile phone) when you ordered the car to play music with the snap in cradle.

If he is able to snap the dock into the placeholder then he should have 6NF (Smartphone integration).

Although he might not have the 6FL (iPod connectivity) option.. but I though you needed to have 6FL in order to have 6NF.

Franko: do you have both a USB port AND an aux-in port in your armrest? if so, do you have the Y cable connected? if so, disconnect the Y cable.

If you only have the aux-in and no USB in the armrest you don't have 6FL.

Yes, I have smartphone integration. My car came with both the USB and the Aux-in. I have my Iphone connected with the Y cable and works perfect. I can play all my songs from the iphone. But when I connect my Iphone in the cradle and in Idrive I try selecting external devices nothing, it seems the car doesn't detects the phone. With the Y cable connected I can see all my songs when I select external devices.

Franko mine is the same as yours. Music plays thru the y cable but not thru the snap in adapter. Mt phone wont charge with the y cable so I use the snap in adapter to charge and I have to take it out and plug in the y cable to listen to music. That's because mine doesn't have 6NF.

It will work if you disconnect the Y cable. If you have the iphone in the cradle while the Y cable is plugged in, the Y cable intercepts the signal.

Sounds like you have 6NF (Smartphone Integration) which required 6FL (iPod/USB Interface) but do you have the right snap-in adapter? There is one for cars without 6NF that just charges and supposedly connects the antenna (supposedly via pins 14 and 17 on the dock connector). Then there is one for cars with 6NF that provide USB and audio connectivity as well. This is the one you need, for the iPhone 3G/3Gs it is p/n 84 21 2 158 683.

Maybe that's the problem. I'll go to the dealer tomorrow and check it out.

Yep...I had the same problem...no music. Turns out I had the wrong snap-in adapter. Works great now. I have heard that the new iPhone 3G-S has a different set of pins than the 3G's. I wonder if BMW will make a new adapter for the 3G-S.

I think that is why p/n 84 21 2 158 683 came out. It replaced the previously good part number for the 3G but I really don't know. It would be great if people would confirm functionality by including model year, whether 6NF is on the car, the model phone, and the cradle part number.
