Time To Upgrade

Hi, I registered here about 3 weeks ago after many weeks of perusing the forum. I have owned a 3.0 litre 5 speed E36 M3 for the past 13 years and it was about time that I considered an upgrade.

Deciding on another Bimmer wasn't an issue for me but more of a matter of which one, as I am a long time M3 enthusiast. My heart wanted a E92 M3 but my head and wallet were saying a 135.

Since browsing through all the good info available on here and recent dealer new car discounts, I decided to go with a 1er.

So finally a couple of days ago I took delivery of a gleaming new 135 manual coupe and I am pleased to report that my car was up to spec in all areas. During the inspection I paid particular attention to the paint work looking for swirl marks and defects, but couldn't find any.

So far I have only driven it about 200 kms but what I can say is with all that low down torque and grunt it's a real HOOT!

When the "M" Division is called in to do their stuff, then the car becomes a little bit extra special to own and drive.

Thanks fellas for all the good wishes regarding the new purchase. I have only done about 300kms in a week. It's not enough so I'll have to get out a bit more and clock up a lot more clicks in it.

I didn't realise until today that my car doesn't have the "Speed alert" function fitted a s standard. It's really disappointing. Apparently if I needed that in the vehicle then it is available with the factory fitted Sat Nav, of course which is too late now to order and fit. When my E36 M3 was built, Sat Nav wasn't available then but it did have the Speed Alert in the OBC which I used quite a bit and it was very accurate too. I guess that I will have to investigate a GPS to provide me with this and will read through the GPS threads about for recommendations.

I would have thought a car like the 135 would have had this function as a standard equipment particularly these days with so many over zealous cops hiding out there just waiting. I have a couple of photos attached for wmj73.

Richard, I will be selling the M3 in about 2 to 3 weeks so will keep you updated if you want.

It has about 211K kilometres on the odometer. Thinking somewhere around $22K figure, but we can negotiate about it a little later on.

I hate "speed alerts". The bloody things beep at me all the time!

Seriously though, I reckon you're better off with a small GPS fitted in your car. They are pretty good at keeping track of speed limits (including school zones when active/inactive), and cost a tiny fraction of what BMW charge for iDrive/satnav.
