Buzzing
After getting home last night from driving for about half an hour (nothing spirited) I noticed a buzzing sound coming from under the bonnet. I couldn't work out where exactly it was coming from within the engine bay. It was fairly loud (I could hear it from the back of the car clearly) for about a minute, then quietened down a bit, but hung around for a little while.
It wasn't there this morning after I drove to work. Any ideas what it could have been?

Maybe you have a bee in your bonnet?
Couldn't resist. Seriously though, no idea.

Haven had that in my car, but my LR has a buzzing noise often after switching off. I think I is coming from the brake system plumbing. Pressures equalizing

Yep, my car does the same thing. After shutting her off from a long day's drive, I can hear a slight whining from the engine bay area.
I believe other BMWs in the family do the same thing, so there's nothing to worry about. WOPALX is probably on the ball with this one.

Water pump keeps running to ensure temps are kept under control. As the ambient temps gets hotter coming into summer you will notice this a little more. Every one should keep an eye on oil temps also.

Thanks for the responses guys. I noticed it only happens on a decent drive (half hour or more), so it makes sense that it has something to do with temperatures.
