What is the up with the ''ECU looking thing connected to a fan'' in the trunk?

So I was being curious and started explore thing with my new E92 M3, happened to find a device that looked like a little ECU connected to a black fan. Anyone happen to know what it is?

Maybe it's the fan of the amp for the premium sound.
