Unhappy Bumper Bump!

I hate this. So I park the car at work and come back to find some moronic idiot decides to hit me and leaves me with no message what so ever.

So I'm at a loss as to what to do? Go through insurance? Ebay a m sport bumper from Germany? Just the cheapest and effective way to make this eye sore go away

Mark.

I feel for you mate. I fucking hate arseholes like this who hit hit your bumpers, mirrors or doors. Some people just dont care because their cares are peices of shit and the damage to a 1980 corolla costs them nothing.

Check out your insurance excess, see if you can get a private quote and assessment for damage. If it is only the bumper, then it might be cheaper to source your own replacement and get it painted. The increase in premium and excess may make an insurance claim not worth it.

I did once however replace the bumper on a 316ti with a M sport item on a sisters car. The insurance paid an amount equal for the regular stock item, and she paid the extra for the bodykit component. So it was worth it for her.

Man, i'm so sorry to hear this.

I hate these pricks too.

I always make a point of parking in a spot with poles either side when i'm at work so no wankers can door-slam me - but end-to-end is just shithouse.

Good luck with it, i'd say exactly what Joel did above and see if you can get the quote private.

i doubt it. Looks like it was really hit with some force. I'd say some stupid 80 year old granny hit the accellerator instead of the brake. That impact was well over 3km/h worth of force. The plastic appears to be distorted so even if you did repaint the finish would be no longer uniform and deformities would still show. Not worth it imho. A rear bumper would cost less in prep and repainting costs and most spray shops will say it is too much work since they cant make money off the parts and too many unknowns to quote, and warrant a finish.

I don't think so either. The parking sensor may also be look at. You are looking a new bumper and PDC. Hmm I will claim insurance. Likely a $2000 plus job.

I went to see Charlie Battisti in nunawading, they specialise in BMW repairs and it's local. The bloke Carl gave me a rough quote around $2000. the PDC's still work fine so that's a bonus! The bumper itself is rounded up where all the paint has split, hard to see in the photos but when you run your hand over it you can definately tell the difference.

That looks like a very heavy impact - remember, the bumpers are designed to return to their original shape so there's more damage than it appears. I agree with the others, PDC might also be damaged.

Probably worth a claim.

Upon spending this evening swearing and getting pissed off with the flies I took off the bumpers! No damage to the chasis, it's all in the bumper right where the bend paint is ripped. So I'll probably give the Smart Guys a go to see if they can meld the bumper back into shape.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Look 4 Security Cameras

I'd be looking around for security cameras. Maybe a nearby building or traffic pole has one pointed in your direction. It sure would be nice to be able to turn someone in who thought they got away with this.
