Garage Door Opener

Hi all, I know this has been hashed over many times but I have a question. Is it possible that I have a bad transmitter in my car, the reason I am asking this is because when I had my 2008 m3 it linked up fine no problem what so ever. With my 2009 m3 it does not work. I push the leaning button on the garage door opener and it blinks, and when I hit the button on under my mirror that light just blinks and nothing happens, I also noticed when I hit the button in the car the garage door opener blinks like its working but it does not. Does anyone have any ideas. Sorry for the long post. Thanks

I have to agree. You have to follow it exactly. My Mini was super easy to program but my M3 was a PITA. It's just very picky for some reason. Make sure to hold the remote really close to the bastage.

Anything is possible, but some people have had more trouble than others getting it programmed. I tried a bunch of times then finally the only way it would actually register the code was to have the door remote pressed up against the backside of the mirror. Once I did that it worked. Otherwise, it would look like it had registered a code but wouldn't work.

steps in manual do not always work. go to Homelink's website and get instructions. i had to reset the garage door motor. it also depends on the make and model of the motor.

the bmw manual tells you how to set it up, but not troubleshoot

Speaking of garage door opener, does the garage door opener come with the tech package or is it something that needs to be ordered separate?

If there is anything that I dislike about BMWs (note plural) is program the garage door openers. Never understood why it is so complicated.

Follow the instructions exactly, both for the BMW, and for your garage door opener. Basically, the car has to recognize the remote, THEN afterwards, it has to recognized the opener. Sort of a two step process. Set the mirror button by using the remote, and once that has been accomplished, get a ladder, push the button on the rear of your door opener motor, the button should light up, then get in your car and program the mirror button. That should do it. Make sure your car is not parked under the door.

Edit: The above is not all that clear.
First, take your remote and go through the mirror button routine, noting the flashing lights etc. This is making your car recognize the remote function for your door opener.
Second - You need a ladder. Your door operator motor may have a blue or purple button at the rear. When you press it in, it will cause an operational light on the motor to illuminate. This light will stay lit for approximate 30 secs. During that time, you have to go to your car and press the desired button on the mirror. Make sure your ignition is on. The door operator motor courtesy light bulb should flash to signal it recognizes what you have done, AND, the door should close.

You should have instructions that came with your garage door operator which discribes this proceedure.
Good luck.

Mine was a pain until I figured out the whole "repeat at various distances" thing. Mine remote had to be literally almost touching the mirror before it would pair. I think the instructions said between 4-12cm or something like that. Mine had to be much closer than 4cm. Once I finally got that to work, the instructions that came with my garage door opener was required to finish everything.
