Finally! Progress. Finished tweeter mounts.
I've had all of my equipment ready to install for about 3 months now but just never had time to work on it. Today, I finally got cracking at modifying the factory tweeter mounts to accept my larger aftermarket tweeters. The a/d/s px concept tweeters I'm using are significantly larger than the OEM tweeters. Inspired by VP Electricity's thread on E90post, I decided to cut away some of the OEM tweeter cup and mount the tweeter to the foam backing behind it. My tweeters come with a threaded locking ring making it a bit easier to secure them to the foam backing. I test fitted everything today and it all fits just fine. I also made some AutoCAD drawings for an adapter ring for the 4" mid and cut out a test piece from cardboard just to test fit the holes for the OEM bolts. That fit like a charm too so I'll have to decide how I'm actually going to make that piece. I'm either going to do it out of 1/4" MDF or 3/16" T-6061 aluminum. Here's some pictures of the progress.
Cut out the foam backing to mount the aftermarket tweeter Mount the new tweeter to the foam backing Trim away the OEM tweeter cup to fit the aftermarket tweeter View from the front. I removed the foam backing on the OEM grill to minimize obstructions to the tweeter output. (I forgot to take a pic with the grill off. The tweeter is not perfectly centered in the OEM grill but none of the driver's dome is obstructed.) Cardboard template for midrange adapter

Would you be willing to make and extra set of mounting rings for the mids?

I just cut it out with a dremel using a combination of the cut off wheel and sanding attachment.

That looks awesome. I told you they'd fit in the foam. I think I might have to hit you up for a pair of aluminum mounting rings too, especially since I have the same mid and all.
