BMW Performance upgrade update (UK)
My Local Dealer says they now have a "provisional" price for my car:
£1065 + VAT for ECU / SW £86 + VAT for Ducting etc £480 for 4 hrs labour at £120p/h Total £1631 + VAT......................£1875 all in As I have a Dec 2007 car I have to pay extra for a new ECU so if you already have the new ECU your will be cheaper. Apparently they have to bring you up to the latest SW version too before they re-map so that includes the ECU for me. There goes my "invisible" Tamper ECU Not sure if I will go for this, I want to see some rolling road before and after runs to see if 26BHP is understated first. Still no news on when it can be ordered. they advise me to call again in 4 - 8 weeks.

I'd say go for Dinan Stage 2 if the prices are similar or if you want the extra power - I think Dinan gives you double BMW PU. Interpreting Dinan's numbers (note that their "stock" engine performs better than BMW's official numbers):
Power: 332 to 384 = +52 hp = +16% (52/332) Torque: 333 to 421 = +88 lb/ft = +26% (88/333) Dinan Stage 2 335i Press Release Dinan Stage 2 is a pure SW upgrade, for earlier and later ECUs (MSD80/81), no hardware mods whatsoever (no piggybacking), and "backfills" BMW's warranty where BMW would exclude you for modding your car. And wow - it makes a substantial difference! BTW, I also really respect Dinan for detailing how they got the extra power in their documents - they bumped up the boost from 8.8 to 13.2 PSI max (+50%). No mystery here. Does BMW detail their mods? |
