Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric
Got myself a new set of of F1 Asymmetrics (225 fronts and 255 rears) based on the reviews from Tirerack. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=120
Initial feelings is that its a very quiet tyre and seems quite grippy... should know more later on as i wear it in a bit more. If anyone is interested i got the whole set (locally) for $1700 which i think is quite a good price as I priced up heaps of other tyres and they were all > $2k |

Hi
am thinking of new tyres , are you still happy with the eagles , did you get 225/40 18 and 255/35 18 or change the aspect ratio to , would have thought the extra wall height would have made them a little squirmy on the road cheers

I have the BMW mobility kit, was not worth 2 knobs of goat sh*t when I punctured a side wall and had the orange truck of embarrassment on the Harbor bridge during peak hour
So I bought the space saver and jack from BMW, since then I have not had a single issue. |

A 10mm width increase at that aspect ratio accounts for 4mm front and 3.5mm rear. It's negligible and would be dwarfed by other factors such as construction, tread pattern, compound etc in terms of performance differences. |

Have any of your guys that have moved from RFT's to "normal" tyres checked with your insurance companies to ensure that you're still covered.
I'm just wondering whether this could give an insurer that was looking for an excuse not to pay, an out under an "it's not standard or factory spec" clause. I know that the dimensions are identical, and the speed rating is the same, but they are of different construction. And I'm wondering whether technically, that makes them different enough to give them a basis to reject a claim. I know. I'm too suspicious of insurance companies. |

It's funny how I can go the entire length of ownership of a car an not have a single puncture, and have heaps of punctures on another car. Worse of all was my Golf III, I think I had about 2 to 3 punctures a year.

The only grey area I can think of would be if you had a tyre blow-out at speed and the subsequent flat caused you to crash. The runflats significantly reduce the risk of this happening, so I can imagine in this scenario the insurer might try to wiggle out of it. Best advice ... check with your insurance company. They're all different and have their own set of fine-print.

I love the fact that you had to explain to the RTA's (yes, the folks that are chartered to maintain road safety and road worthiness of vehicles --- Oh! And speed cameras and other vital road safety devices), what a run-flat tyre is. Go guys! Staying right on top of your game. That's hysterical And we pay for these monkeys - what a joke. Road safety --- ppffffftttt! Why don't the state govt stop pretending, and just make the RTA part of state treasury. At least we'd be less cynical about their aims. It's not like they're well hidden as it is. |

I have wondered about this. Does BMW roadside assist still send a truck out at their expense if you get a puncture? I can see their argument being that they dont need to as you should still be able to drive on the runflats.

I've got the same rears. Very happy with the grip and noise levels.

I am hoping tu swap my RFTs for "normal" tyres in the near future. Phoned JAX tyres to get a quote and was told that only RFT tyres would fit on existing rims.... Will look elsewhere.

However, on the other hand, it's not like you replaced the turbo in a 135i and had the block blow up. I guess it comes down to what exactly BMW classify as a modification (and as they openly advertise RFT's as a positive feature of the car, they may say that replacing them is altering the car).

Not to rehash an old subject but if your tire blows out whether it is an OEM runflat or replacement non-runflat what is BMW roadside assist going to do ?
