Cutting to fit the BMW Performance exhaust.

I’m almost to the point of going for the BMW performance exhaust, but am a little surprised the OE system needs to be cut so the new back box can be fitted, why didn’t BMW just do the new back box to fit up to the original flange point, I’m just worried that if I ever want to go back to OE it can’t be done.

Any thoughts.

If you want to go back to standard after a while, you just remove the Performance and put back the standard exhaust. The only difference then is that you will have a couple of "clamps" on the standard exhaust. Its easy to swap systems.
I put on my Performance exhaust in about 20-30min.
And i can definetly recommend the Performance exhaust, the sound is lovely.

I have the BMW exhaust. You always go back because its just a flange/clamp that you can use to put the stock back on. And don't forget, its just a metal tube under the car. Any decent welder can just weld your stock exhaust back in place.

I cut my exhaust myself, no problem. Just doublecheck so you dont cut it to short.

Just to clarify, you do need to cut the performance exhaust in order to install.

OK...thanks, denial. I was actually just looking to know if any cutting/welding was involved in this installation at all.

I was hoping it would be a simple bolt on, but it looks like I'm going to shell out the extra $200 for the installation.

Sometimes, I miss my Honda days, when simple bolt-ons were exactly that: unbolt the stock unit, bolt in the new unit, no cutting/welding required.

Will the instruction tell you where to cut or you just have to measure?

Not sure...I tried emailing dan before to get the instructions--he said that there wasn't any specific instructions and ended up sending me a generic exhaust repair instruction set instead.

Denial, I noticed that you've just sold your CP-E and now you are interested in BMW's PE. Does it mean you don't like CP-E or was it too lound for you? Curious mind wanted to know. Thanks.
