M3 damaged at 4 days old!

Ok, so I picked up an AW E90 Thursday with Tech, Premium, Cold, DCT. The car is amazing and I absolutely love the DCT. I pulled up to a stop light and am rear ended. The other car was probably moving about 5-10 mph...just hard enough to crack the front bumper of his Toyota and just hard enough for my bumper to now have two screws sticking through it and a scratch from the collision.

I get out of the car and needless to say I'm a bit unhappy. As it turns out, the driver is an older gentleman and speaks about 3 words of English. Those 3 words are "sorry" and while pointing at my bumper "no problem". After about 5 minutes of trying to communicate, he decides it is in fact "no problem" and starts to leave before the police arrive (by the way, BMW Assist works very well contacting the police). I'm fairly good at charades so I was able to convince him not to leave. The police ticketed him for failure to control his vehicle and sent us on our way.

A couple of hours later, his insurance company called and wanted to refer me to a body shop. Of course, I told him my body shop is located at the BMW Center where I bought the car 4 DAYS EARLIER! I'll be dropping the car off for repair in the morning.

The damage is relatively minor but it still sucks. The only regret is my kids hearing my 5 minute curse laden rant after being hit.

The car is awesome and can't wait to get it repaired and back on the road!

I can really understand you being pissed, but at least it was just a tap, and you and your boy are okay. We love these cars so much, got to remind ourselves of the bigger picture.

I feel you. My M3 was crashed by my friend after only 5 days on the road. $8K+ of front end damage (all cosmetic) and 3 months in the shop

In the big scheme of things, it really isn't that big a deal. Should be a minor repair and will be forgotten. Now that I think about it I don't want to post pics. I'll probably get flamed since it's very minor!

Maybe while I'm at BMW I'll check to see if the Performance Steering Wheel is in....if so, it'll be forgotten that much faster. Hope it was work the $1K.

You're definitely not alone. I have been tapped in both the old E90 and the old E92. Both times they were parked stationary at my garage. No one ever left a note.

Kids are like sponges... sorry to hear about both accidents. I feel you though, I catch myself saying things in front of my kids that I shouldn't be... usually it's when they're repeating it.

Sorry to hear that man... My car was 2 months old and I woke up one morning walked outside and my buddy says "bro WTF is that?!" I look at the car and didn't see anything. Then I notice a HUGE dent on th back right corner of the rear bumper. I started flipping out, cursing and screaming.. Come to find out it was my mom that backed into it on accident and when she realized what was going on she started crying and apologizing..

You REALLY have no idea how shitty you can feel when you make your mom cry over a dent on your car...

It sucks when your car gets hurt but it could always be worse!!

That sucks...I had a similar situation at 4 days old too. I was devastated. But it went to the shop and came back perfect. I'm sure yours will be the same. And after a week or two, you'll forget all about it!

Don't let the kids hear that! LOL. If I were in your position I'd probably do the same. I feel for you. I've been rear-ended three times in my Miata. Just keep reminding yourself "it's only a car and nobody got hurt". I hope it's not too long before you're back in the car again.

Until then, cheers.

Back in January my right rear quarter panel (and edge of rear bumper) got backed into by some guy in a work truck with a trailer hitch on it. So the rear bumper had to be replaced, the quarter panel fixed, the rim fixed, and the scratches on the right side door repainted. BMW of Fremont highly recommended Homer at EMC Collision, and a month later I had the car back looking like new.
