Power reduced when new??
When I was on my test drive my SA said that the power is limited to 70% for the first 1200 miles and then you get 90% after that until 5K when you get all 100%
Is there truth to this? Does the "computer" limit the HP & TQ for the first 5K miles? I go to pick up my new M tomorrow am, I don't think I am going to sleep much tonight.

I take it from the responses thus far, that that is not a correct statement.

The only limitations I know of, are what you are supposed to follow in the manual for break in periods. I remember hearing things like this when I was shopping and when I test drove the car. I heard something about the m5's being limited in such a way (I believe it to be bs also) but if they were ever limited in the past, I think someone ASSumed the m3's were also limited.

Basically it looks like they are taking the brake in period numbers and comparing it to max. Anyway, have fun and it will feel like a different beast when you get the 1200 mile service done and find a nice road to drive it on. You don't have any of those out there do you?

This has been asked a thousand times and for the thousanth time, no, there is absolutely no difference in what the engine is capable of doing before the service or after the service. There is no magic software change done by the dealer, no limiters removed, nothing.
And in general, this is just another example of why you shouldn't believe anything a salesman tells you. They are soooo wrong, soooo often, it's laughable. On your test drive you were probably with a CA (customer advisor, ie, salesman), not an SA (service advisor). |

Just had my 1200 miles service done, car feels exactly the same. I had my SA show me what they do and nothing on the checklist has anything with the ECU done.
