Question Beeping noise?

I just noticed this in about the last 3 or 4 days after having had the car for about a month and half now.

It's not a huge "omg the car is broke" thing but I just can't figure out for the life of me what it is.

I noticed it usually within the first few minutes of having the car started though I have heard it once or twice while I had been driving for 15-20mins already.

It's just a soft electronic "beep. . . beep. . . BEEP!" Kind of like the staging lights in Mario Kart (dorky comparison I know). But I don't see anything on the computer or the iDrive telling me what it is.

I'm thinking it might be related to my iPhone and the bluetooth pairing. But I paired that when I first got the car a month and half ago and haven't noticed it till now. Also like I said, it has done it after I've been drive for a while too, so I dunno. And it doesn't do it every time I start the car up either, so it's kind of random in how often it happens.

I don't find it all that annouying as it doesn't do it that often but I wish I knew what it was trying to tell me. Like when it dings when the temp is below 37 degrees outside, or when I have a quarter of a tank of gas left, at least those I know why it's make the noise.

Is it the hourly chime on the clock?

That's also my guess and easy to 'fix': Just uncheck that option in the iDrive.

Best regards, south

I didn't even know it had a clock chime! I swear I went thru all those iDrive options. Is it in the iDrive or the trip computer thingy (not sure what the actual term is for the computer in the instrument cluster)?

Guess it could be. I guess I often get in my car shortly before the hour on the hour, ha ha. I'll look at that and let you know.

Seems odd (to me) an hourly chime would be more than one beep, especially a series of beeps that sound like they are counting down. Not ruling it out just saying seems like an odd choice for a chime, but I'll look when I go home from work in a few hours.

It's probably the clock chime. I don't know where the choice is in the iDrive menu, but it's there somewhere. Check the manual and that should solve the problem.

I liked the clock chime

I had a 2008 335i and I liked having the clock chime - long drive to work - let's me know when I should get pissed that it's too long...

Now that I have upgraded to the ultimate machine, I cannot find it anywhere on my 2009 E93. Contrary to the other posters, I want this on and can't seem to find it in iDrive. Any pointers as to where this is located, from those of you turning it off, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I had no idea there was a clock chime! I am so glad, because I love the clock chime. I miss it from my old M5! I feel really dumb now...

the chime is identical to the chime that is broadcast on german radio stations...that is where BMW gets it from. if you are in germany every station plays that same chime right on the hour.

Unfortunately, I think there's no clock chime for the 2009 models. This feature was dropped with the introduction of the CIC.

Best regards, south

ok I found the option, it's called "Hour Memo". Now I remember turning it on to see what it did cause I was like "what the F#$K is an Hour Memo?". Oh those crazy Germans

So yeah it's under the Date and Time settings in iDrive.

Thanks for letting me know, it was driving me crazy.

I had that beeping noise, sounded like it was warning me my car was going to blow up. The dealer said it's a hour memo alert or something. You have to turn it off, or if you're like me and cant figure out how to do that the dealer will do it for you.
I just cant figure out why I would need a hour memo in my car.
