New M owner!
Being my first post, ill get right to it. '09 Jet Black on black, DCT, Premium, Tech, Premium Sound, 19's, Moon, Heated Fronts, Carbon Leather. It has been sitting on the lot here for a little while and after going back and forth whether I wanted to order or pick this one up, they made me a great deal on trading in the 335 coupe for this one and priced it just over invoice. Honestly, I could not be happier! Being my first ///M, I am truly blown away even after driving several...now for that break in period to be over!
Some first thoughts...DCT. Love it. The lag issue is annoying, but I only drive in S4 or 5 so it has been minimal to this point, hopefully it stays that way. Also, when the car is cold, there is a lot of what I guess is cam noise and its sluggish, but turns into a symphony when there is a little heat in it. MDM and EDC are silly not to have in a car this advanced. New I Drive is amazing, much better than previous generation. The list would go on and on. Some other oddities...the CA that ended up getting me the car was more than sure that I shouldnt have to worry about revs even during the break in. "As long as you dont smell the cats, then you are not driving it too hard. The standards are so much higher now that there doesnt really need to be a break in period." I looked at him like he was insane, and continue to drive like normal. Any reason that he would say this? Finally, some pictures, albeit dirty ones! I saw this old gas station with a Vader tag and thought it fitting... |

I believe the "bloods" of the forum will allow you to be sex-ed in as well.

As for break in, there is a sticker in the upper left hand windshield that clearly spells out the break-in process. So I don't know if I would trust the CA. Otherwise congrats and good luck......Steve

Thanks all. I already planned on following the break in, especially since I have been monitoring this forum for a while and nothing has mentioned to the contrary. Enzo, anyone here in Chucktown meet up at all?

1,200 miles goes by quickly. You've waited this long for an M3, just baby it like the directions tell you and the CA, for the breakin period then go nuts. |

Congratulations on the car and deal. Your CA is ignorant. Either that or he's full of it. Follow the manual instead. Don't forget, after the 1200 mile service you can ease the revs up over 5500 rpm gradually. It's not fully broken in until 3000+ miles; so, you don't take it up all the way to redline until after it's fully broken in.

Its just funny how there is such a range of experience/knowledge amongst CA's. This guy has owned a decent fleet too, M5/M6 among them so it was still confusing/amusing to listen to his drivel about not worrying about getting on it. One problem is that I have to drive halfway across the country right after the 1200 mile point, so those miles will pile up quick.

One other thing, my original CA told me that the exhausts were de-tuned/made quieter for the MY09. Any word on this, it does seem quieter than the 08s that I have seen.

I did a farily aggressive breaking, being sure to rev to 5-6000 rpm on a regular basis once the engine is fully warmed up. After 1200 miles straight to the track to really break in the engine. My service advisor is an enthusiast who races a euro spec e36M3 and has worked at the dealership 12+ years. His thoughts were that the M5s that burnt gobs of oil were those that were babied during breakin. I now had 9000 miles, do not burn oil, and at this point I drive whatever is appropriate for my mood at the time, but generally not too aggressive unless at the tract.

Thanks DD- I miss Seattle, I grew up there and used to track my 2000 S4 down at what used to be SIR, now Pac raceways right? As far as the break in, I was fairly aggressive on my 335, and never had any problems, but I know that it was not an M, but I will be the first to admit that the higher (not red line) revs have been reached out of pure joy.
