speedo/odo?
So if our speedometers are reading faster than we are actually going. Does that mean our odometers are adding miles quicker? The speedo being a bit fast doesn't really bother me too much. But if it's racking up miles on the odometer faster than real life that's not cool.

Why do you say this? My escort 9500's speed and the digital speedo on my M3 read the same. So mine is reading accurate. Did you change wheels?

When I drive by those radar speed signs I'm generally a couple MPH faster than they say (although they seem highly inaccurate as the difference is never the same) and most people on here have posted about their cars not going as fast as their speedo says.

Yes the odometer is optimistic too. I remember an article about Hondas having such optimistic odometers that they were forced by law to extend the warranty period. Do a search on google and you can find more info.

My speedo is off about 3mph at 60mph, verified by radar and GPS.

It would be nice if the same was available for us. Does anyone know if that kind of stuff is adjustable when getting tuning software?

aren't most cars' speedos off by a few mph?

I understand that regulations require that speedos are optimistic. Mine reads 270km/hr at the electronic speed limiter which is 250km/h true (also verified by gps). I read somewhere in another thread that the BMW speedos build in 5% speed error + 4km/hr, which I think is what the case is (250 x 1.05 = 262.5 + 4 = 266.5km/hr which is pretty close to what the speedo says).
But I am not sure if true or indicated odo data are used for milage and/or average fuel consumption claculations. |
