Ipod Connection

Do you guys disconect your ipod when you leave the car? My ipod stays on after I shut down unless I disconect it. Won't this drain the battery if I leave it connected?

Drain the car battery? Only if you leave there for like a week without running the car - maybe even a couple of months. The drain from an ipod is probably less than from the car's own systems.

I always leave it in there, I'm too lazy to pull it out of the pouch. So far, the car hasn't come across any problems.

I leave it in as well but it seems every now and then it drains down the ipod. I leave the ipod connected in the car all the time, it's jsut for the car. I thought it might have been the older ipod I was using at first, but I replaced it with a new 160G classic and the same thing has happened twice in the past 3 months. Car wont recognize it, and I have to leave it sitting for like 10 mins before it has enough charge built back up to connect to the car and be read. Weird...

Yes! I have the same problem with my 5G video, but neither of my Touches do this. Very strange. No idea why it would only affect wheel-based iPods.

That is quite strange. Whenever I pull my 80gb iPod Classic out, it shows that it is fully charged. Also, it never takes more than a minute to read all the songs I have on my iPod, which is half full.

I saw this when I was using an iPod classic as well. A best as I could tell, the car pauses, then powers down the iPod about a minute after locking, usually the iPod would then see the power drop, and soon switch to standby. However, it seemed to me that occasionally my iPod just missed the pause, ignored the power change and kept playing till it eventually run out of battery. It could have been the Car communications, maybe the iPod firmware ??

I always leave my cable plugged into my car and I often leave my phone plugged in. I have had my battery drained many times, which just resets the time/date. I think its because I have a very short commute to work and the ALT doesn't charge the battery with such a short commute, and not because of the Ipod connector.

Have had this same problem myself. Although it hasn't happened since I turned off shuffle on the iPod and turned on random in the iDrive menu.
