Anyone tried adding feul additives...

I tried putting the red bottle STP fuel enhancer and the damn neck won't go anywhere near the metallic feul flap to keep it open. So all the STP just poured out as I pulled it out a minute later thinking it was empty.

Has anyone tried using any of this stuff or any other type on their M3. Will it have any appreciable affect on performance or at least keep the feul system cleaner. If so how did you circumvent the mettallic flap problem. It seems I am going to have to pour the additives into something else with a longer reach.

A small plastic funnel with a long neck works good. Used one for adding fuel stablizer for the winter

Does that stuff actually work or make a difference in performance?

I can certianly tell you that in my 2006 awd Sienna it litterally works magic! The van would run like a sports car with the stuff and the more aggressive additives. Now that is just a minivan, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt in the M3. BTW my Sienna only get premium feul and it still seems to clog my injectors and other components. But those additive work like a charm just after a single use. Now I put one in at almost every fill-up(20 gallon of feul). That is why I am sold and seeing if anyone else had any luck. I ain't a gear head by any stretch but was looking for others experiences to confirm what I've exprienced.

The only additive I would even think of using is the BMW approved Techron sold either as Techron or in the BMW branded bottle.

I used an additive my dealer gave me that comes in a BMW branded bottle, long neck fits fine into tank.. As another poster said, if you are using one of the BMW Top Tier gasoline retailers, the gasoline you are buying already contains ample additives, so I am not sure even the BMW additive adds a lot of value. A bigger issue IMO is the stealth increase in the amounts of ethanol in gasoline!

Or just use Chevron brand gasoline (also a Top Tier brand)

If you only use Chevron or Shell premium and never any other gas and never get a tank of bad fuel (which does happen) you will not need any additives. But sometimes it's inconvenient to find a good station, and sometimes the stuff that comes out of the pump is not exactly what it is claimed to be. Gas stations are not run like hospital operating rooms. So using a BMW approved additive like Techron occasionally is not a bad idea. I consider it cheap insurance. As stated above, a long small funnel makes it easy to get the stuff in without struggling with the bottle.
