Hi and welcome,

The 2010 M3 engine will be an upgrade of the current S65 engine. It will feature a stage2 dynamic supercharger capable of producing 32psi of boost.

With this the M3 is expected to produce over 1000hp and 2700 lb ft of tq.

It will also be equipped with a triple clutch 3 speed tranny and and to reduce weight all windows will be made of carbon finer.

M engines are rarely modified for a given platform. There have been minor displacement increases in the past, but I wouldn't bet on it. Turbos are out of the question for this engine at this time. You might want to do a search next time before posting.

Yep, ~2013-14 will be the next major revision.

Maybe the changes will come sooner. With pressure to boost sales, we might seek more features becoming available during a model run. I woudln't completely discount engine modifications, if BMW though they would increase the appeal of the car.

Yeah...not gonna happen. Even if they do "improve" the motor, the price will not go down. If the economy isn't in the tank dealers would still be charging MSRP for these cars. The reviews for the car are nothing short of wonderful....so it isn't the car (or the motor).

Direct injection would be the likely next step, but I can't see BMW spending that kind of money if V8s are on their way out. It could give a fuel economy boost, however.

Yep. Significant modifications to the engine would require significant R&D, testing, and manufacturing costs. They only mean to make about a 100000 of these cars (probably 20000+ made already), so I don't see how they can recover the cost of such a modification in the next 4 years.

that R&D will cover more than just the M3. besides they're not re-inventing the wheel + the M cars are hella expensive for a reason

R&D costs would could down the drain if the V8 is on its way out. Testing and tooling costs would be specific to the M3. People oversee the fact that M cars are small production runs compared to the other 3 series models. Again, if these costs were no issue, there would have been many modifications to the previous M engines, and there weren't.

That's his 1st post on the board and this is the welcome the guy gets? Nice...

OP, no one knows an answer to your question. Most likely there will be no changer until the next body style model comes out... 3-4 + years?
