new m3 owner
I just leased an 2008 m3 sedan 6 speed a little over a week ago AW on fox red. I have pretty much everything except the 19 inch rims (which i didnt want because I live in NY) and premium sound. I had a couple of questions I heard that after the first service they are supposed to unlock something on the car just wanted to find out exactly what that is and if its true also i have some knocking when im on red lights I did read about it on the forums but its just kinda loud and doesnt sound like its normal, any ideas?
ill upload photos latter, there really is no point its just a stock m3 sedan |

Congrats on the new car. My understanding (I could be wrong) is that launch control will not be active until the 1200 mile break in is complete. Otherwise nothing has changed on my car since the 1200 mile service though it does feel better/faster as you get some miles on the car and everything settles in.....Steve

I have that knocking also, but have been told (had a mechanic ride with me) it was to be expected and not unusual. However, that doesn't mean your knock is the same as my knock, so if it concerns you, I'd get it checked out.

Is your clutch pedal depressed or not when you here this knocking? This knocking more than likely is attributed to the lightweight flywheel our cars have and not the engine. Congrats on the new car, I have AW, fox red, and 18's as well.

Iam gonna have it checked out at the 1200 mile service I have about 200 more miles to go.
The clutch is depressed when i hear this noise and once I press the clutch the noise kind of fades but there I still hear something, IT BUGS ME OUT!!!

I dont think anything on a 6MT is locked or requires some sort of dealer change after the 1200 mile service. Our M's make alot of noises, If the noise that bothers you changes as you move the clutch pedal... it is normal... the more you think about it, the more noises you will find. It is what makes an M a M.

The only thing I can think they they might have unlocked is the launch control - but then again I didn't try to launch the car inside 1200 miles so not sure if was activated then or not. They have also been performing some software upgrades on some cars.
