HEADLIGHT WASHERS AHHHHHH, how can we disable

So every time i spray my windshield, my headlight washers go off.

I have cold weather package and cant stand it. The reason why i hate it is becasue the soap from the headlight goes all over my car (hood, roof, windows).

I noticed that if i lightly tap my spray button, only a little burst of water goes off on my windshield. but if i click the knob or hold it down, my whole car gets sprayed.

How can i spray just my windshield, without my headlight washers going off!!

Thanks in Advance.

Why do you care if headlight washer fluid gets on your car? If you are blasting your windshield with fluid, we can only assume your entire car is dirty.

no not true. If my car is dust or semi dirty, or even if a bird shits on it, windshield washing is important.

However, once the headlight washer blast my car it leaves stains and spot, making the car look filthy...

Unless, of course, you are clearing a bug hit off the windshield. My bad.

My solution is to drive around the bugs. My fellow roadgoers don't appreciate my technique, but it makes for some spirited driving.

I spray in bursts. So I never hold down the stalk too long and do it multiple times, it usually does the trick without activating the headlight washers.

I test drove a 135i that had headlight washers. After the test drive I accidentally bumped the stalk when reaching for the key. The windshield sprayers didn't have time to activate but the headlight washers did and sprayed a huge cloud of mist all over the car, and the dealership had just finished detailing it earlier that afternoon. The SA looked SO pissed off.

No I figured it was totaled so I ran out of there as fast as I could, screaming and waving my arms.

as someone already mentioned. even if its dark out, when you come to light or even on the move, turn your lights off for 2 seconds, spray your windshield, and turn the lights back on. There you go, sprayed windshield ONLY

Exactly. Those who had to wait long periods to get the first cars had time to figure out the washers are bad news. Just get the heated seats without the rest of the package. Know that doesn't help the OP. I assume you can pinch off the fluid lines to the headlight washers, though.

This issue has been discussed before - please do a basic search before posting. If you would search for "headlight washers" (words in the title of your thread) you would have found this:

I'm sorry, are we wasting your time? Are we using valuable forum space that could be utilized by solving real problems? Problems like "What kind of music do you listen to when you hit the M button?"

I ordered my e46 w/cold weather package, now i know better and ordered heated seats individually. On my e-46, i unplugged the headlight washer motor at the washer fluid reservoir, and bagged both ends of the connection. No. More. Mess.
