The Dangers of Lowered Springs..or...What Part Is This?

Hmmmmm. Was driving south on Shepherd the other day, between Fairview and Westheimer, and actually hit a manhole cover (STAY OUT OF THE RIGHT HAND LANE!!!) Looked in the rearview, and saw some plastic rolling around...not good. I pulled over because I didn't know if I would find the oilpan hanging off, looked under the front clip, but didn't really see any damage. No warning lights, and the car drives fine.

I walked back to the manhole itself, and found the remains of this:

Anyone have any idea what it is? The numbers on the plastic just represent the material it's made out of, not it's identity. Is it the remains of a jack point?

Positive it was from your car? I thought BMW (and other ISO certified manf.) had to imprint each part with a part number, but what do I know.

Good luck

It's the front jacking point mount. You'll find it in the front center.

It has a BMW imprint on it...and looked fresh to the road if you know what I mean.

It certainly scared the shi* outta me when it happened. But apparently the car is alright. No discernable issues since.

If I were you, I would still jack the car up and look for any damages.

Agreed. Thought it sucks to have that come off the car, I would be more worried if you hit THAT hard on the ground that something else might be damaged... Check it out to see if everything is good to go.
