Trickle Charger settings

Hi, I want to connect a trickle charger to the battery of my 135i. The trickle charger has a setting for battery type and gives me 2 choices:

1. Conventional & Low Maintenance

2. Maintenance Free & Deep Cycle

What type of battery does the 135i have?

Thanks

Joe

Deep cycle it is not.

Take your battery's Amp rating and compare it to your trickle charger's Amp/Hr rating...divide the former by the latter and you've got the number of hours to leave the charger on the battery.

I already know that part thanks. The problem I am having is that there is a separate switch on the battery charger that you must flip to one of two settings, either conventional/low maintenance or maintenance free/deep cycle. I don't want to screw up the battery by not having this set correctly.

This is the charger that I bought....got it for $49.99 on sale at Canadian Tire.

Here is what the manual says - I would choose maintenance free at 2 amps.

It's a $120 charger that was on sale. We aren't driving the 135 this winter so was advised to throw it on a trickle charger for a few hours every week to keep the battery fresh.

I saw advice given on this forum not to disconnect the battery when trickle charging it due to all the electronics in the car that might be affected by disconnecting it.

I just updated my post based on the manual.

If you're not driving the car, ie: it's in storage, I'd remove the battery and keep it indoors. The car will be fine without the battery, and your battery will last a lot longer without the load.

As to your original posting's question, and my subsequent answer...as I wrote, it's NOT a deep cycle battery (guess you missed that). Typically only marine batteries are, and battery chargers are a generic item, to be used by all, hence the switch setting.
