premium audio
just wonder for those who spent the extra money for the premium audio.
Is it worth the extra money? I just ordered a 135 and I didn't get it, should I be kicking myself right about now? Thanks. |

The premium audio in the 135i isn't the same as the Logic 7 audio offered on other models. The optional radio on the 1-series is the same system used on the E46 330i, X3 3.0si and Z4. It's a good sounding system but not worth $800.00 bucks in my opinion. If it was the Logic 7, then it would be.
The base audio in the 1-series is pretty weak, but if you stick to an iPod, you should be fine. It all depends on how much you enjoy your music. It's better to keep the 1's price low, so avoiding this option is normal

I am pretty picky about sound quality, but no expert. I got premium sound and using it with my ipod was VERY impressed.

I have the premium audio. It has logic 7 settings in the menu. Must not be the same as other logic 7 systems. But I think the sound difference was enough for me to order it when I ordered my 135. I think it's just a different amp and speakers.
I also got the USB hook up. That is a must! |

In the US and Canada, the Premium Sound option does include Logic 7, the more powerful Amp, better speakers, and an all digital system using the MOST Bus, it's documented in the FAQ pretty well.
I have the Premium system, and I do love it, others are less enthusiastic. I like it for the headroom in the volume, I never have to get near its limits, and I like fully integrated systems, and can not be bothered with after-markets. However, if you are not happy with the standard US system, after-market is quite doable. There are good easy speaker replacements, as well as 3rd party amp upgrades, even a BMW offered Alpine upgrade. So don't panic, unless you;re an audiophile, or a thumper, you may be quite happy.

The Top HiFi audio system in the 1 Series is a lower cost version of the 3 Series Logic7 digital (DSP) system. The main difference is that the 1 Series OEM DSP amp has 6 channels of amplification instead of 9 channels in the 3 Series OEM DSP amp (10 speakers vs 13 speakers respectively), so the Logic7 in the 1 Series is simulated (no center speaker) as a minimum of 7 channels is required for the full Logic7 processing. |

I have the premium and it's the best stock audio system I have ever spent a lot of time with. The main caveat is that I only play music from my i-pod so the tuner or CD player may not be all that impressive. The music from the i-pod sounds fantastic and easily matches my 7.1 home system. That's partly because the accoustics of the car from the driver seat is better than the accoustics in my house. Makes me want to spend more time in the car. I think it's well worth the cost.

The premium system has a nice sounding CD player.
Cd's sound better than any ipod or memery stick. They sound good, but not as good as the CD player. I have had nothing but complements on my system. IMO $800 was a bargain. |

None are lossless. And some are cut like crap (the new metallica CD, for example). But, a "perfect" CD will output an unaltered waveform at 44KHz, which will sound better than any mp3 at any bitrate. Anywho, the premium audio sounds amazing, honestly. I was always the kind of person who would say to opt out of sound systems in cars and then install your own. And frankly, I could probably install a better system in my 135i for $800. But its not worth the labor. The premium system sounds awesome. Super clean high freqs and really nice bass thanks to subwoofers under both the drivers and passengers butts =D IIRC the standard audio discludes the subs, which make a huge difference, whether they are a billion watts or a hundred. No subs = fail. |

You can store lossless AAC or simple wav on iPod. I do not know if premium supports FLAC. It would be nice.

I have the Standard system, it has the BMW Professional Head unit, speakers under the seats, tweeters on the mirrors, and the door and rear shelf speakers. I'm very happy with it.
