Noise from engine compartment after shut off
Hi, I just picked up an 08 Alpine white 135i for my wife. I parked it in the garage on arriving home and noticed that even after 30 minutes from the time I shut off the ignition, there is a noise emitting from the engine compartment that sounds like a cross between a transmitter and fax machine.
I've never owner a BMW before so have no experience with the car and the dealership is closed for the night now. Joe |

That's normal - it takes more than 30 minutes for the car to go sleep. Until then the car electronics are still awake and making noise. Also, if its a new car all of the part tolerances are still really tight and you will likely hear noises during the heating and cooling phase due to the expansion of the metals.

yeah that happens to a lot of cars -- there is often a cooling fan to cool down the engine compartiment -- especially if you just finished beating on the car.
i'd be willing to bet its more common on a manual trans car because i think the engine has to work a little harder -- especially in stop/go traffic
