HD Radio
So I just spent the last 15 minutes STFA for info about this cause I was SURE it has been covered, but didn't find anything.
My new 1er is coming with HD radio as a result of me ordering Nav. What do users think of HD radio? Worth it? I've never experienced it, honestly I barely use the radio anymore. Strictly satellite or the hard drive with my songs stored. I'm excited to try it out and was interested in everyone's opinions on it.

HD radio can give you better quality than satellite due less compression ratio. I do not listen to much radio either, since iPod. However I found HD radio useful, because I am getting more stations, like my favorite classical station has two channels in HD, and they are sounding really good.

At over $1200 for an HD-ready BMW head unit, without core or coding - it makes a retrofit a bit harder to swallow.
You'd be much better off going the Sirius/XM route.

I am spec'ing Sirius as well. My curiosity is still peaked with regard to the HD radio though. Any other comments from users?

I have only my 09 for less than a week. The HD was pretty cool on the drive up from PCD, it's nice if you have a favorite station that has multiple choices. The sound was good for driving through mountains that used to reduce my M3's radio reception to nothing. I'll keep you posted.

I have HD radio and like it (but use my iPod predominately). I don't like subscription radio (I'm cheap ; -).
HD attracted me because of the lack of fees and the alternatives available. I don't listen to 'normal' programming (I'm into the oldies, pre-Baroque ; -). HD has available a great local classical station that I grew up with so it was an easy sell for me. The signal quality is better than regular FM but don't believe the hype that it's as good as a CD. Oh and I need to give a shout out to Moscow (MOCKBA) as a fellow classical music junkie! |

I've HD Radio also, I love it when I get HD signal. It's quite annoying when the HD signal is weak and it switches back and forth from ST to HD. The volume increases when it is switched to HD, so I've to turn it down and turn it back up when it switches back to ST.
