How to make alarm lamp blinking without actual alarm

I remember Z4 had an option pushing the lamp to blink without alarm. Do 1 series something similar?

No - you would have to wire something up yourself. You can get blinking LED's at electronic supply stores. Most of them are low voltage, though, so you would have to rig up a transformer to power it.

It can be a deadhorse, however search doesn't bring any certain answer. Some people claim it can blink without alarm, some that isn't possible for 1 series. Only Z4 has the feature. Anyway, I will ask a dealer.

Others have checked. You can't make the light blink without an alarm, unless you modify the wiring yourself. Let us knoiw what you find out.

My E46 blinked, making me think it had an alarm from factory. Brought it to the dealer to activate the audible locking notification, their programming attempt sans alarm deactivated the blink. I then took it to a good BMW indy shop in West Chester, PA to reprogram the blink without the alarm. He said it took some creativity but it worked.

OK - the challenge is out there. A free TIM YOYO Tee Shirt to the first person who can document how to make the clown nose blink without having an alarm, and without modifying the wiring or adding additional LED's or other gizmos.

The very first most popular alarm DIY install I ever read said the nose blinked long before the ECU was reprogrammed. (After alarm kit was installed) Thats what will always be in my mind. I would almost pay the $200 for a kit just to have the nose blink. Thats cheap.

Yes - after the Alarm kit is installed, but before it is programmed. If all you want is a blinking LED, you can get those for $1 at any electronic supply store. They are typically low voltage, so you will have to power them with a transformer.

We've been through this many times, and a number of techs (MadDragon being one) have confirmed that the clown nose setting is not there without the Alarm being installed, and this is indeed different that on Z4's, E90's and others. I have seen one comment off the top of my memory where someone said they had got this to work, but no confirmation was provided when he was asked how and by who.
