iDrive internal Hard Drive

Does anyone know how big the hard drive in the car is? Also has anyone figured out how to get around the DRM issue? Thanks

The only way around the DRM issue is to break the protection on your PC. Unfortunately the issue with the iDrive not playing DRMed songs is not an accident. DRM is made expressly to prevent it.

I thought it was an 80GB hard drive, with about 10-20 dedicated to ripped music.

I think you're right atomic837. I'm remembering the amount you can save music to.

So you have the iPod option and iDrive, where then might you have a DRM issue?

If using your iPod, which I assume you have given that option ordered, you shouldn't have any issues playing music downloaded from iTunes -- DRM or DRM free.

With regards to playing music from iDrive, in theory - you would be ripping music from a CD onto the hard drive as I'm not aware of any other available copy/transfer method. In which case, you shouldn't have an issue there either.

Hmm, you just made me think of something. If I connect my iPhone to the front USB with the sync cable maybe I can transfer my music to the hard drive. I'll give that a try tomorrow. Thanks!

According to the information in the latest BMW magazine...

80GB hard drive
8GB for music

and yes to someone's question, this would only be for 2009 1's, 3's and 7's with iDrive. The 5's and 6's get a separate refresh later.
