How does smartphone integration work?
Has anyone connected their iPhone with the "smartphone integration" 6NF option yet? Do I need to buy a snap-in adapter for my iPhone? The dealer was unsure as this was the first car they delivered with this option.

You do need the snap-in adaptor. Option 6NF simply extends the USB connection up to the snap-in adaptor. Otherwise you cannot use the USB function at the same time as charging your phone.

a lil google did the trick here...
I think this will apply for the 1 also... http://stage.bmwcca.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3098 BMW, the first automaker to provide Apple iPod integration and factory Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, announced it will add Smartphone Integration (option 6NF) starting with October 2008 production. The new option will be available in the X5, X6,1er, 3er, and 6er Series. Owners of a variety of smartphones, such as the Apple iPhone 3G, will benefit from Smartphone Integration. The smartphone option not only charges the phone but allows access to any music or MP3 files stored on the phone. It also improves telephone reception by reducing radio wave interference. It does not conflict with BMW's iPod/USB (6FL) option but rather is complementary. Smartphone Integration means that the driver doesn't have to connect his mobile phone with integrated MP3 player to the USB audio interface. It can remain in the special snap-in adapter in the center console. Previously, in order to play music from a smartphone, the driver would have to remove the phone from the standard snap-in adapter - if in use - and plug the phone into the car's USB audio interface (6FL option). In addition, you can have a separate MP3 player plugged into the USB audio interface and listen to music from that. If both are plugged in, the device attached to the USB connection will take priority but unplugging the USB device will return control to the smartphone. A separate snap-in adapter is required. BMW said it will announce smartphone support shortly. It's likely we'll see the original iPhone and the new iPhone 3G on the list. See our review of the original iPhone here. Jonathan B. Sometimes I wonder what sales people do. I know if I worked at BMW, I would find a way to read up on stuff, especially when it's the first item! In my line of work, not knowing stuff is...well... I would not be able to buy a 1, that is for sure.

When I noticed that option it was to late to add it to mar order even though the car is 09 production... I am a little upset that i will have to choose now between keeping iphone snap in for better connection/reception or playing music by connecting the usb... Maybe there is some way to retrofit this.... maybe it is a matter of some special snap in adaptor...
Any info would be appreciated

Otherwise, I'm sure it is possible to add that option. No idea what BMW will charge for it though.

Until you need to sync it. I sync every day for podcasts, and since I already have to charge my phone everyday it is no big deal, but if I use a hdd it is an extra thing to sync.

Ah ok. I've never gotten into podcasts so don't have that issue.

I went yesterday to united and talked to Dan. I have an 09 with 6NF and the current snap in does not allow you to play music from the phone. Dan talked like the correct adapter should be out shortly.

Pic of Smartphone Integration
Hi all,
Can someone post a quick pic (cell phone quality is great) of what the 135 looks like with the smartphone integration piece? I saw it in a 335, and I was just curious how different it looked. Todd |

I grabbed some pics of just the receptacle, how it comes from the factory with the snap in cover and then with the snap in and iPhone. I have the 3G but this snap in is for the original. I think we are all waiting on the new piece to drop.

Hello, I just bought a 335ix with the 6nf option. Do I still need to buy the adapter plate or should I have received the adapter plate as part of the option. The sales man did not know anything about this option.

Can someone help me understand this better? I have an 09 with iDrive and Bluetooth, but not the $150 Smartphone Integration option. Can I still buy one of these snap-in adapters? I don't care about playing music from my iPhone. I just want to dock it in the arm rest so it can charge. Some clarity would be appreciated.
