Transfering contact info from phone?

Hey guys, just got my 128i yesterday and I'm playing around with it. I can't figure out how to transfer my phones contacts' info to the car. I connected via bluetooth no problem and able to make phone calls. But for transferring contacts and messages I am unaware on how to do it. The manual doesn't help to much either. I did get a message saying transferring data under the telephone menu, but it seems to take a very long time as I do not have that many contacts. Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Garage List
Is it an 09 or an 08?

Contact information on my 09 just transferred automatically. Took a few minutes.

Happened automatically with my phone too (HTC Touch). Suspect your phone's not 100% compatible, sorry.

I have a 2008, transfer of close to 500 contacts works just fine. Sometimes it can take up to a minute for them to show up in the car's list, especially if I had updated a few contacts.

Your messages will not get transferred.

It is an 09. I have the LG Viewty (KU990). Do you know if the contacts has to be on the Sim card or the Phone itself? or does it even matter? Also I thought messages are transferable as well, I saw 123D-M transfer his messages and where able to display them.

I found that if they are on the SIM with my phone (HTC Kaiser/ATT Tilt), then the contacts are not stored alphabetically, and go into the _ starting character section (if looking at the A-Z listing).

I copied them to the phone, and they indexed correctly, and automatically.

When first pairing the phone, it sucks them in. Took about 200 years (1-2 min)

On my 08 it doesn't do addresses, just phone numbers. I wish it did.

I had a motorola v551, and an Apple iPhone2.0, both worked on the 08 model here in Canada. I don't think it does msgs, just names and phone numbers.

I tried it again last night. Zero problems! All "phone number" contacts xfr to the idrive. I have yet to try and see if echo is still an issue. My V551 had no echo, and when I first did the iPhone it was ok. But the last 2 times it had echo. My guess it's 2.1 software for iPhone that is the issue, not the car.

john08135i, yes, and I wish it would also input addresses into the map address, and I wish it had live internet, and I wish it also would play DVD's (09 does) and I wish... well something will just have to wait for the next BMW I buy. LOL What would be really smart is if they have a docking bay for an apple MacBook Pro with touchscreen. Then none of this would matter!

But that would mean we would save 5k on the car, and that means less money for the SA to buy his house/car/golf games. LOL

how can you re-import your contacts if they are already imported? do you have unregister your phone and start over?

the reason i ask: when i go to "Contacts" from the main menu, all of my contacts from my phone are there, but no phone numbers and unable to dial from there. if i go to the "phonebook" section in the telephone menu, i'm able to dial out on any contact, but some contacts are not there. Strange!!!

Mine seem to import every time. When my phone connects it takes a little while before all of my contacts appear. iPhone 3G w/ 2.1.

try placing a call from your Contacts folder in the Main Menu as opposed to the Phonebook from the Telephone menu. let me know how it goes?

The Voice Dial function is completely unrelated to the Phone's internal contact list, you need to program names and numbers specifically for the car. The instructions for doing so are in the Audio manual (but are quite wrong), there's a thread on this somewhere.

I need to add a FAQ for Phones !!
