remote key doesnt work from far

how come our remote key sucks you have to get real close to the car to activate also tried on my friends 5 series same type of key, i like my lights to turn on as i aproach the car, or to drop the windows from a distance?

what options do we have as far as upgrading like starting the car while key is in your pocket?

It will not work from a distance if there is no line of sight between the FOB and the car. So, if you care is behind a larger car, chances are it won't work

There's lots of discussions about this, keys often seem to only get 10-15 meters (15-45 feet), but holding the key to your head seems to extend the range dramatically. Tint may have an affect on range as well.

Do you have Comfort Access and/or tint ... and try it from the rear of the car, the antenna is definately printed traces on the top of the rear window with CA, and probably the same for normal.

Mine works from 30 feet away, as long as there is nothing in the way. I do not have CA or any Tint.

My car's key is intermittent.. sometimes 5 ft, sometimes 20 ft.

But I was AMAZED that from my new 3rd story office the fob works at over 200 ft! Thru the window.
