Exclamation BRAKE Warning Sensor

Was driving my car normally today (under 4.5K RPM lol )when all of a sudden the brake warning light comes on the dash and the IDrive changes screens to "BRAKE PADS WORN".:iono:

"Have them replaced by the nearest BMW dealer"

WTF...The car has only 2800km's on the clock.

Have turned the car ON/OFF numerous times, have let it cool off, but still the warning lights wont go away.

It is also showing the Service Indicator above the temp on the dash..( A sketch of a car on a service hoist )

I know this is a fault somewhere as obviously the brake pads arent worn out unless the warning solenoid attached to one of the four calipers is faulty.

Anyone else have this false warning light showing up??:iono:

Looks like back to the stealers this week..

That'd be annoying, Zuzu.

Hopefully the Zuzette can be fixed ASAP.

Thanks Matty..

It is annoying...Plus time consuming having to go back to the dealer.
I know the brakes are fine, just hoping its a faulty brake pad sensor...

I had that happen in my second last X5 within a month of purchase. It was a faulty sensor, BMW fixed it .

Sorry to hear that Joe. Must either be the sensor or a computer glitch. They should be able to sort it out pretty quick. I guess that's the problem with cars these days, they are so complex.

Zuzu - This happened to me after 10,000km in my 130i. It turned out that it was just a software glitch and the tech did some funky stuff with a reset and no probs thereafter. The pads still had heaps of meat on them so obviously an error.

You could be correct..

Now that I think back of the sequence of events, the original warning wasnt about the brakes, but to do with having the DTC turned off.

When I tried to reactivated the DTC,there was no response from the system.

Then after a series of flashing lights and warnings the brake sensor activated and remained on and the DTC icon turned itself back off.

Oh well...Will get it checked out this week..

I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago. My dash did what the dealer called "a christmas tree", meaning all sorts of lights started flashing. First, the car told me that the DTC and DSC were faulty, and that I should drive with extreme caution as the systems were not working. A few hours later when I got into the car again, this warning was replaced with "brake pads worn".

I dropped into Bib Stillwell the next day, and after about 20 minutes with the car, the problem had been fixed. It was simply a software fault. Our cars are computers after all... obviously PCs rather than Macs...

Corey, you have hit the nail on the head mate...

You have described the EXACT system malfunction that my car went through.

Your recollection of events is far more accurate and precise than mine, but 100% correct.( I think my memory is fading with age )

Well the good news is that it can be rectified by a visit to the dealer.

The BAD news.. Is this a going to be a recurring problem with the 1er's.:iono:

Bugger

So to hear about the fault. I wonder if they'll upgrade to the 30.2 software...

Be interesting if they take you to 30.2, ask them Joe what they do. Be interesting to see if an update also fixes the Ipod issue described by Kyle...

Will keep you posted of the outcome this week guys..

The thing is that, this fault is not isolated to the 135 as Corey had the same software issue..

I am convinced all of our 1ers will throw some sort of fault early in their lives so as to have the software updated to detect piggy backs! lol

Joe, just have a look at the brake pads and you can see if it is worn or not. I really doubt it would be unless they gave you a dodgy (or was it dodgey?) one to start with. At least then you know you can drive it in a normal fashion until you have time to go to your dealer.

Hi Swift.

My car went in today to have that "Christmas tree" problem resolved and the dealer just rang to say that the car will be kept over night as they are upgrading to 30.2 or higher (whatever that means).:iono:
Didnt realise there was a upgrade over the 30.2.

Was told that it will have to stay overnight as the download for the upgrade will take approx 9 hours..

Also finally having the High pressure fuel pump replaced..

Will give a report hopefully tomorrow night if I get the car back by weekend..

NEW FUEL PUMP and SOFTWARE UPGRADE.... This should be interesting..

Interesting. Is there a way to find out what the current version is on our cars? Just wondering if mine was upgraded to 30.2 (whatever that means!).

Also, what was the iPod issue? Must've missed that post...

I can't understand why it takes soooo long to upgrade software. What? Did BMW get a deal on all those discontinued Commodore 64 tape drives and they now lurk in our cars? Maybe they should change the tapes to 120 minute tapes, that way they can store more info!

I agree. I wanted to change the auto window opening and was told the car had to be plugged into Germany for 3 hours!

Maybe at the service.
