iDrive display won't do as it's told....

Hey guys,
This one's for those of you with iDrive....

In the display settings menu, there is a sub-menu for "open display at:", and various options you can tick or untick:
  • Ignition on
  • Voice input
  • Telephone
  • Navigation
  • PDC
There are a couple more, but I can't remember them just now. Anyway, I'm kinda sick of the display being open all the time, and didn't want it to open when I start the car, so, I unticked the "ignition on" option, to no effect. The display still opens when I start the car. I then unticked all the options, but it still opens as soon as I turn the car on.

Anyone else experimented with this function, and if so, what have you found?

If you go to the configuration setting for the star and rhombus buttons on the right side of the steering wheel you will see an option to open/close the screen. I often close the screen at night when driving.

I don't know whether you can set it not to open on ignition though.

Cozza, not got the car yet, but there's been discussion of this issue in the appropriate main forum - I don't think it was resolved.

I don't think un-ticking the ignition on option will stop it from opening for some reason. Maybe it's a legal issue - BMW wants you to read the warning that comes up before you drive off.

I have set my steering wheel button to close the screen.

It would be nice if the screen re closes itself though.
