2009 iDrive in Australia
Has there been any more news on iDrive 2009's arrival in Australia?
When I talked to the dealer here in Perth they couldn't confirm or deny that there would be manufacturing changes in September. I shelled out for the Pro nav option on the basis that it would probably come through given that half the world seems to be getting it - I'm not sure when my manufacturing date would be. It wouldn't make a lot of economic sense to keep part numbers up for separate manufacturing lines at the same plant... Also: Hi and thanks to everyone on the forums, 1addicts.com has been a great source of information! |

Apparently there is a meeting of some of the dealers this week in Melbourne and they expect confirmation about the NAV.

Hi ExMX5,
Firstly Welcome to the forum and secondly, as a Perth boy, I hope to see you cruising around in your vert. AutoClassic "cannot confirm nor deny" when the MY09 will go into production, but Sept is most likely. This is to protect their backsides. Like you I have opted for the Prof Nav. purely out of uncertainty. I have been told that there was no Sept allocation and that my coupe will be an Oct build with a Jan09 delivery. I guess yours will be similar.

Absolutely - the Perth chapter of the 1er brigade should have a few members early next year!
I was told build would be "after September" with delivery in March. We're going to have to cross our fingers until later this week... |

My dealer confirmed today that BMW Australia said the new iDrive won't be in the 1 series until Dec 08 or Jan 09 production and won't see it in Australia until about Feb 09. Its disappointing but I'm not going to delay my order until December.

Thats just Australia BBK, the dealers here are kept in the dark until the very last minute.
The good thing though due to the time difference between its actual release and when its released here is that you would assume all the bugs have been ironed out

Hey mate, yes, Bill did say he would chase up the guy in Melbourne and get back to me but hey, my order is so far down the track, it ain't a problem.
My order - now that SGM is no longer available, we've decided to go for Black Sapphire with lemon interior and poplar grey trim. We'll go for the Pro nav and HiFi (I love my music), auto (it's an absolute hoot), alarm and the sun roof plus auto dimming mirrors. I'm undecided on the CA - I've managed to live without it for 30 odd years but the Pro Nav is what I want. Not quite sold on the fixed screen but the software looks very good so am prepared to go with it. The photo's that 123_D supplied were very good and I think, did a pretty good marketing job for BMW - I reckon 123_D should get a commission from BMW. How's your 135 going? Any problems or is it running sweet? Phil |

Cheers Simon, I have to say that I only have a cursory understanding of CA, it's not something that I've really researched much about - guess I'll have to get a lesson from my dealer!! As far as I know, CA just unlocks the car doors for you without you having to press the key fob and then locks the car as you walk away - is that pretty much it?

Hi Phil,
I have ordered comfort access and I have a 3 series with comfort access and its great. You can open the car by placing your hand around the door handle, start the car with the key in your pocket or brief case, and lock the car by touching the top of the door handle. Its very convenient and I would recommend it.

Phil_d, cargeek's pretty well summed it up. It still takes a semi-concious effort and you need to get used to being close to the car, but the opening is a totally natural movement, just grasp the handle naturally. Locking is a little worse, but still easy. The best part is leaving the keyfob in your pocket the whole time. I still feel the natural urge to remove the key from the ignition when getting out of the car, but it's the best thing - followed by the xenon headlights and adaptive headlights.

It's quite handy, but I decided against it. $1500 to make me more lazy is not a good idea...

I ordered CA, reason being is I have a massive key chain and was worried about scratching the dashboard and I think just jumping in and pressing a button is really cool (my mate's Lexus has a similar system and have always been envious).
Did not get Nav - I barely ever use my tomtom these days and my blackberry has a GPS (actually works quite well - Nav4all is the program) - I bet in 2 years mobile GPS will work very very well and I would rather save the cash for a 60" TV etc |

My dealer called today and confirmed that BMW Aust. have officially told the dealers that cars built from Oct 09 onwards will have the new idrive. He is unsure about those cars built in September 09. He did mention that the price has risen $500 but he won't be adding that to my already substantial invoice price.....

Phil forget the alarm mate, its a waste of money.
The alarm won't stop people from stealing it, the immobiliser does, & that's free...kind of
