cars and guns, wtf??

I thought I'd share something I'd noticed with "y'all" recently.

While cruising the main forum here I noticed a lot of people from the US drawing comparisons in various ways to driving/cars and guns.

To me I guess it illustrates a gun culture that just isn't prevalent in Aussie society, has anyone else noticed this? It's kinda wierd IMO :eyebulge:

Just make sure you wear sunblock if you're coming here, 30+ SPF is best.

Mattyv, yes there were references of guns in SOME but when you say a LOT OF PEOPLE in the US in the forum drawing comparisons in various ways to driving and guns is kind of like a quick draw on your part and is not true. Strive to be more objective so there will be no misunderstanding.

You are partly correct on the culture part, yes a lot of folks in the US have guns. Our constitution supports it although it is under scrutiny at this modern times. We have evolved from the wild wild west era and has been responsibly successful that we dont shoot each other over petty discussions like humor mongering. Now, considering our history...what problems would it bring to Australia if given the same situation (having the right to bear arms)... do you think it is as peaceful as what we have here in the US?

So nothing is wierd!

Since I wrote the first post that he is referring to I will clarify. In another post people were trying to compare a 135i to an STi. A friend of the poster was trying to talk his friend out of getting one (STi). I wrote the post to compare the feel that only the person using the product will understand. If you read the post, you will see that I clarified by saying, shooting a gun is unique to the person using it, no one can tell you that you're wrong and that something else is better because it's a personal experience and only you know what feel you are looking for. It's kind of like wearing a condom (this analogy may be easier for some). Some people like them, and some don't, some want a special twist in it, I don't know whatever. It's all in the feel of the person using the product and what they are looking for and you can't tell them that they are picking the wrong one.

Thanks for missing the reference to popular culture.

I can not believe that the world has not changed. I spent some time in Australia as a geologist for an Australian mining company..had some good friends, nice learned people, shared a lot of beer but i guess anywhere we go, there are people that dont just get it. There is only one earth and we are called humans.

You didn't have the picture in your first post, so how is anyone supposed to understand your reference to "popular culture"? If you knew anything about the US, you would know that this is not it.

sigh, is right doctor.

having lived in both countries i genuinely feel that the variance of intelligence in the US is higher than here in australia. the average bloke is much smarter here, but our top end is nowhere near as smart and our bottom end is nowhere near as daft.

on a lighter note, read my signature...

So, do you wax or shave?

And "thank goodness"?! Are you freakin' serious?! Look at what the second amendment has done to your country! The USA is gun toting, trigger happy nation who murders more of its own people than any other country in the modern world! It's high time America got its collective shit together.
