In the article "iDrive controller that comes with optional sat nav can still infuriate, though shortcut buttons are a welcome advance over earlier versions". I thought the shortcut buttons were only with the new iDrive which isn't in oz yet?

Did I miss something?

I think they are referring to the 8 programmable buttons you get on the old iDrive, under the HVAC controls.

Not the fancy new iDrive controller buttons.
