Track Day - Eastern Creek 30th Sep 2008
Driving Solutions are holding a track day at Eastern Creek on 30th September, which includes professional instruction throughout the day, and even a full lunch and drinks. I'm with a bunch of MINI owners who have arranged "mates rates" of $250 (reduced from $275). If there are any 1ers interested in coming along too, we may be able to add you to the same booking and save yourself $25 in the process. Please post here if you're interested. Alternatively, if you can get five cars or more together, you qualify for the group discount anyway.
More detail of the MINI group attending is available here: http://forums.mini-mods.com.au/showthread.php?t=1373

Had a great time at this track day on Tuesday. Was great to see Jeff's 135i out there on the track too ... he was seriously quick with lap times of around 1:52 or so. After my last experience with a big spin on turn 1, and considering I'm soon to part with the Mini, I was taking it a bit easier and my best was 2:02.

Hey Brian, did any of your mates get any photos of my 'provoked oversteer' at turn 2 or turn 9?
ps: just managed to get the car to the BP and fill it up, won't be going out on track again with fuel that low... |

BTW please PM me your email address and I'll send you all the data I logged in your car using my Performance Box. You can analyse it in detail after downloading/installing the free PB software. It was very illuminating to compare your best run with mine in the Mini. You were pulling slightly higher G in the corners ... ~1.1G peak. The difference was even more noticeable when entering corners. And the punch out of corners you were getting is simply amazing. I think your top speed before turn 1 was something like 220km/hr compared with 185km/hr in my Mini.

220km/h sounds high but I guess I need to take a look at your data. The race chrono software from my N95 said that I peaked out at something like 208km/h on the straight...
I would like to have a go of Dragan's M3 to see how quick I could go in that. My guess is that both cars would be pretty similar in the hands of the same driver. Interestingly we had pretty much identical top speed down the straight (we were both using race chrono on a Nokia phone). |

BTW Dragan's car was on R888 semis and I was still running street rubber (Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1). The Dunlops are one of the best street tyres available but surely there must be some more in it with R compound tyres. Even more of a reason to give a word up to the 135i!
