Well it ends up being a tie betweent the S3 and the 135. The writer actually retracts some of the glowing praise he poured on the 135 in the first issue but says he'd still give it 18/20.

As Aussieracer said there is not much int he way of hard data which was a shame. The article felt a bit rushed.

They mention the understeer and poor composure on B roads...

Overall though it outshone the Sti and and Evo which is good.

Kris, I think you were refering to your old car. I have had an Mk 1 Audi TT and a MkV Golf GTI, and I can tell you that the chassis of the two cars are worlds apart. I have also driven a current S3 on the track and test drove it on the road. It definitely is no slouch!

Bah! The only way the S3 is in the same league as a 1er is if Audi put a DSG in it.

Goddamit! I swore I wasn't going to buy Top Gear Australia magazine after the first issue. Looks like I'll have to get #2 afterall. But I promise, that's it, no more.

Actually I didn't think much of it at all. Too much of a hotchpotch of the UK version with added Aussie "flavour". It was seriously lacking in solid test results, and had too much yobbo attitude in the writing style. Nothing clever about it at all, apart from the columns by Clarkson, May and Hammond. It is all the things that I disliked about MOTOR until the recent change in editorship. Thanks, but I'll stick with my regular subscriptions to WHEELS and MOTOR.

Thumbs down

I drove an S3 recently and it was quick, but not 135 quick. There was way too much turbo lag. This was especially obvious if you went around the corner with the wrong revs. I felt I had to drive the thing hard the whole time, which is necessarily a bad thing

The driving position felt off as well.

I know people all rav about the quality of the Audi interiors but I personally don't like them, this car was no exception. Also, this is such a plain looking car, too much like a Nissan for my liking.

Garage List
Interestingly enough I took an S3 for a spin a month before I drove the 135i coupe, and while I've got the say the S3 was good (I was prepared to order one and then I drove the Bimmer) it doesn't push the right buttons like the 135i does.

I'd actually bagged Bimmers for a while, but with hindsight really for no good reason (probably the same reason I used to bag cars when I had motorbikes in my early 20's, lack of knowledge).

Unfortunately if I follow this logic through my next car will be a Holden...

Could be a few traffic light drags in Gungahlin me thinks, hmmmm. 135 v M.

Had a 350z few years back and my wifey had an XR6T, sitting at the lights on way home. The Z car left a pair of nice stripes (TSC turned off of course) across the intersection... closely followed by the XR ...anyway, you had to be there...
