Rumour time! Aust orders delayed to supply USA
I love rumours. The one I heard was that the demand for the 135i is so strong in the USA that BMW will not make any more for Australia in the near future and that this may even affect current orders which may be pushed back months.:iono:
Anyone heard this or is it BS?

Wouldn't be surprised. Even though the 135i is much cheaper in the US, BMW would move more volume than they would in the AU market.
From a retailing perspective it is better to achieve a greater stockturn and hence higher return-on-investment at the expense of a slightly lower gross profit. |

It better be just an ugly rumour... after Tuesday week I'll be without a set of wheels for the first time in 14 years.
The three month wait will be bad enough, let alone the idea of having to wait longer |

Given that dealers like Doncaster BMW have no backlog (although every car ordered is a factory build and hence 3 mth wait), I'm sensing the demand in Aust isn't too strong. There are definitely more than 200 135s in Aust which goes against BMW saying only 200 would be available in '08. So maybe the rush of pre-launch orders gave BMW Aust a leg up to get greater allocation, but since there really isn't a backlog of orders in Aust (it is just dealer specific) possibly the allocation has been cut back a bit.
I think there was a member on here that got a decent discount recently so if supply becomes a bit tighter they can keep the prices in Aust up too.

Interesting story:
http://www.news.com.au/business/stor...64-462,00.html Sure a 40% drop in sales for BMW compared to Audi's 18% says that BMW should have followed others like Volvo, Audi, etc... and covered the LCT for orders placed before the LCT comes into effect.

I wonder if those figures are exaggerated by the fact that a lot of people rushed their order in to avoid the tax increase.
My Audi dealer mentioned that sales for the last few months proceeding the increase had been huge. |
