Front Plate or NO Front Plate; that is the question...

Ok--I owned a 1995 E36 M3 for eight years and NEVER put the front plate on.

*I was pulled over three times and given 2 warnings and a 'fix-it' ticket--I still never put it on. (permanently) I used tape in the ladder incident and had a mechanic sign the ticket saying it was 'fixed', then promptly removed the plate.

Now--I have the new 135i. I can choose to put the front plate on or risk being harrassed by my local authorities once again.

I can't seem to make up my mind--on or off?:iono:

I'm not putting one on, I purchased the bumper plugs, so when they come in, they're getting filled.

The plate blocks part of the intercooler and it's ugly. Off for me.

I rock no plate at the moment, looks terrible IMO, told the dealer if they were to drill the holes I would not pick up the car.

I asked the dealer to deliver mine without the front plates drilled in. Unfortunately, the dealership they received the car from had already drilled in the front plate holders.

I still leave it off, though. Since it's Jet Black, it's hard to spot the holes. I'll probably get bumper plugs eventually.

e: Oh, and the car looks much better without the front plate.

No front plate for me. I still have an old Mass green plate - it's rear only, there is no front plate. It's amazing to me that Massachusetts allows people to still use those old green plates, especially since FastLane and some other traffic enforcement stuff photographs the front plate!

Lucky SOB...

I was thinking about getting the off-center (tow hook) plate to have on there when needed (for inspections and such) and then just take it off the rest of the time. I think it easy enough to take on and off that it could be done. Hopefully I won't be bothered too much about it. I am definitely not a fan of the off-center plate being on all the time.

Anyone else plan to do this?

My Right foot + Dinan tune give the police enough of a reason to pull me over. I played it safe and just put the damn thing on.

You could try the Altec Retractable Front License Plate Holder.
Hide it under the bumper when you want, pull it out when you want.

If I'm living in a state that requires a front plate, I put it on the car no matter how bad it looks. It would be my luck that I'd get pulled over for it at the worst possible time, such as with a couple of dead hookers in the trunk, or after two tall beers with dinner.

It's just not worth the hassel to me, even though I think most cars look better without them.

My car was delivered with a front plate, even though I specified that it not have front plates. I refused to pay for the thing until the dealership agreed to fix the problem. They did, and it looks much better. Ill mount the plate in the front window when it arrives.

No plate on the front. If I get pulled, I am going to tell the truth - I think it looks bad, requires permanent alteration of my car, and decreases gas mileage.

I have done this before, and the cop about blew a gasket when I confronted him with "civil disobedience". $60.

That is hilarious!

There is no denying that it looks better without the plate. However, I live in an area where cops are known for giving tickets if your license plate bracket covers a part of the "Ohio" sign. So, not having a front plate is essentially tantamount to murder in their eyes.

As much as I hate it, I put the damn thing on to give the fuzz one less reason to pull me over. Besides that, I am in law school and have to report/explain each citation to the Bar Admissions office.

Last time I tried running no front plate was in 1985 on my WS6 Firebird. It lasted for a couple weeks. I haven't tried since.

I hate front plates, stupid law.

LOTS of money could be saved if no front plate was needed. Energy and metal.
